A line full of mums and DD's in converse while sitting watching a class, I don't want to be the same, I bought Primark version (£5) and lasted 3 weeks, there's a surprise! Are Vans the new trend? (never been 'on trend') and are they any good? And what does this say the fact I have to ask??

I never wear "branded" shoes, can't bloody afford too! My dds do have a pair of Converse each (I think they look gorgeous on kids), that my DSD bought them 6 months ago when she got some compensation money. She also bought herself 3 pairs and a pair of Doc Marten boots at the time. Although she's 18 so can be forgiven for being trendy. Although now she hates wearing both the Converse and Doc Martens because everyone else is wearing them. In the past I've bought my dds 2nd hand Converse off ebay or bought the Primark sopy versions, which surprisingly lasted a long time and even several washes in the washing machine!

Converse aren't trendy, they're classics. Gah, teenagers always think they've just discovered the new thing - I was wearing Converse before they were even born! Not at all the same as William Hague wearing his baseball cap backwards. They're like jeans or a black blazer, anyone can wear them at any age. And I agree they look gorgeous on little ones, too.
