Where are all the female singers/musicians who ROCK??

I've been listening to Kerrang on the radio on and off for a bit now, and I realised today that I don't think I've ever heard them play a female singer/group, and can't think of any current ones.

Harking back to the 70/80s and Joan Jett/Heart/Suzi Quattros music didn't fill me with a whole lotta love for them, and Courtney Love was an embarrassment in the 90's.

Is it a mostly macho genre and any women entering it have to play on their bodies to get anywhere (same as most music then?).

Or do women just have better things to do so don't even try to improve on the perfection that is Metallica? Grin

Your DC have been well educated squeaky Smile

I've been thinking outside looks like one big Led Zep video at the min with all the dandylion seeds floating about in the sun, just need a couple of blokes with guitars and flares for the scene to be set Grin

Has rock ever been trendy? Got more airplay nowadays than it's ever had I suppose.

I loved Janis Joplin and Grace Slick. They're a bit dead and infirm to rock now though.

squeakytoy · 01/05/2011 21:53

I loved Marianne Faithfull, still play her music quite often.

bethelbeth · 01/05/2011 21:55

I think it was quite trendy a few years back- urban outfitters were doing a roaring trade in led zepp tshirts and blondie bags.... it's died down a lot though

Which makes me happy because the thought of all the 'trendies' wearing one of my coveted tshirts makes me gag Wink

lubberlich · 01/05/2011 21:57

Chrissie Hynde is still fabulous. Saw her at Latitude a couple of years ago and she was breathtakingly good.

Someone who rocks totally is Eliza Carthy. That woman on a fiddle is a sight to behold.

There will only ever be one Patti Smith though.

I dressed goth but was into grunge/industrial in my yoof, and I was right pissed off when they started doing all the coffin/skull stuff after I'd 'toned down' my clothes.

I would have maimed and killed for a coffin backpack.

Yuki Chikudate of Asobi Seksu also rocks.
