to think that Camilla is a bit of a national treasure

Yes another wedding based thread.

I think she seems a good egg. And looked lovely today.

Plus there were a few moments where she looked very emotional in the abbey, was very touching.

No royalist here either, but I like her and I'm really glad she and Charles got to be together after all the shit they all went through.

Yellowstone · 29/04/2011 23:30

alicatte we heard booing here. One of my lot dissented and said silence rather than booing. Anyhow, a mood change for sure.

It's good that things have moved on in the past thirty years. In 1981 the family wanted a bride with no 'past'. I happened to have my first baby scan done by the gynaecologist who had scanned Diana before her marriage to check (as far as a scan could show) that she was capable of bearing an heir. He was at the very least indiscreet; I suppose he could have been lying. How demeaning though, if true.

LadylissielouofShropshire · 29/04/2011 23:32

yellowstone, its very sad. I dont think that charles, camilla or diana can actually be blamed for how things turned out. they must all have been utterly miserable.

but, hopefully, the monarchy have learnt and moved on.

Yellowstone · 29/04/2011 23:33

Ladylissie it did look today as though they have.

QuickLookBusy · 29/04/2011 23:36

Yellowstone I would have reported that gynae if I were you.

It is a sackable offence to discuss another patient.

The thing I really liked about the last few days is that Kate always seems to have her Mum around her. I think that shows she is really there for her.

I don't think Diana had a lot of that with her Mum.

Tortington · 29/04/2011 23:38

shes a horse not a national rteasure - they should all be shot VIVA LA REPUBLIC

oldpedant · 29/04/2011 23:38

I'm sure Kate's had every fertility test that exists...

alicatte · 29/04/2011 23:41

I honestly didn't - actually I heard cheering. It was a happy day - there was cheering (and screaming too which is an unfortunate development I think - I wondered if it contributed to the horse bolting. I was always told that screaming was attention seeking and that you should not do it unless you really needed attention.)

I had heard the story about the 'fertility test'. I wondered if it was true as it seemed rather incredible, gosh and how surprising that a gynaecologist would break patient confidentiality like that. I hope you found yourself another doctor - I would have.

Yellowstone · 29/04/2011 23:47

Quicklook I'm not that type, it wasn't my business and would have done no-one any good. I just assumed his head was turned by the glamorous commission and forgot it until later, when I dwelt more on the brood mare aspect and the tragedy of the misplaced good intentions by almost everyone involved.

Oh please let them all be - Charles and Camilla are now married. Diana is gone and I loved her! Let them all live in peace as a blended family. They appear to be making the best of it all and Will clearly loves his Dad.
Let them be an example to us all. It was a wonderful day - please let them be happy

Again10 · 30/04/2011 01:28

PuzzleRocks · 30/04/2011 01:59

I wish she was my step MIL. She rocks.

Virgowoo · 30/04/2011 06:45

1944girl
I saw the nose wiping - and it was the same hand.
I actually said "Urgh!" out loud.

Imagine being on the receiving end - I guess you'd just have to grin and bear it and deal with your snotty hand after. Shock

lady007pink · 30/04/2011 06:49

I didn't like her outfit, but she looked good.

I'm pleased too that she and Charles got married in the end and they are so happy together - it's just a pity they didn't do it before causing so much heartache to others.

FattyAcid · 30/04/2011 06:54

Selfish and shameless but probably a good partner for prince Charles...hardly a national treasure

ZacharyQuack · 30/04/2011 06:56

No it was okay, the clergy shook Camilla's hand after shaking Charles'.

LtEveDallas · 30/04/2011 07:19

"Some chronology is required here. Camilla and Charles were shagging throughout Charles' and Diana's marriage and Andrew Parker-Bowles was fast tracked through army ranks by way of thanks for not objecting. I understood it to be common knowledge amongst army people at the time."

Yellowstone, he went to Sandhurst in 1960 and gained Brigadier rank in 1990. 30 years to Brig is pretty usual, not a fast track at all.

As for the DofC, I wouldn't say Camilla was a national treasure, but she is very down to earth and easily likeable. I was never a fan of Princess Diana. During official visits she was wooden, only coming alive to flirt with the young lads. It made for uncomfortable viewing. They really never should have married, they were never suited, for that I would blame her own family, pushing her into accepting a life she didn't really want.

The Princes seem happy enough around Camilla, that's the real seal of approval, surely?

TandB · 30/04/2011 07:29

I'm with you, OP. I think it was a great shame that Charles didn't marry her to start with. It would have saved a lot of heartache all round.

Everyone deserves a shot at happiness and I am glad they finally got theirs. The two princes seem to like her which says a good deal.

Mrscampbellblack - I don't think Charles was told it would make him look good to pick up the bridesmaid - when you watch the video you see Camilla realise that she is struggling to see over the balcony and she starts to speak to Charles, gesturing at the little girl and looking concerned. When the camera next comes back he has picked her up.

TandB · 30/04/2011 07:34

I am also going to admit to having a bit of a soft spot for Charles.

I don't quite u derstand why he is the target of so much dislike. He has some strong convictions and gives strong support to his chosen charities.

I think he would have been much happier running an organic farm somewhere, with Camilla pottering around in wells 'doing' the horses.

slovenlydotcom · 30/04/2011 07:35

I am sorry but the comment that Diana had affairs because she was unhappy and therefore that is ok is just ridiculous

explain that to poor Will Carling's wife!!

ifancyashandy · 30/04/2011 08:12

The files on who Diana was snagging / had shagged could restock the British Library!

No saint by any imagination!

Queen Camilla looks like a bloody laugh. Was saying to friend yesterday, "imagine having Di as your MIL?!" Can you imagine her not upstaging Kate yesterday?! And she'd have found those apron strings very difficult to cut....

ohnelly · 30/04/2011 08:52

Can't stand her either, national treasure? Never

sausagesandmarmelade · 30/04/2011 09:05

She was there before and during the marriage...she never stepped away or stopped interfering...

Diana never had a chance.

I can think of more worthy people to idolise...

Yes she can be forgiven for the past...and I'm glad charles is happy...but you can't forget what really happened.
