I have taken a life long interest in daily newspapers...

I gather readerships are falling in newspaper sales.

Most papers have some stuff on the Internet. (Some papers charge for this. I gather The Times does.)

People I talk to mostly say we have stopped buying a daily paper. News is available on radio and TV

I like to read good columnists in most dayly papers. Paris in The Times.
Reade in the Mirror...Polly in the Gruniad and even a couple of columnists in the Daily Torygraph Julie Burchill in the Indy is in a class of her own.

Mumsnetters? I should imagine most get their news from the Internet.
But there seems to be a Daily Mail faction; some Torygraph readers.
Have not seen the Daily Sport mentioned here (Is it still being sold?)

Evening papers are another matter. They seem to be losing sales. The London standard is said to have gone FREE. (which is odd.) But most places of any size have an evening paper. (which is now on sale in the morning)

there you go, morning evening. We soon wont be able to tell dawn from dusk

yes, was just thinking the same catchme. I have my knitting needles at the ready....madame defarges and all that...

PrettyCandles · 27/04/2011 15:13

Here.

donnie · 27/04/2011 15:13

interestingly, Gabby, I absolutely loathe every single hack you mention by name! but that's another thread.

BitOfFun · 27/04/2011 15:14

Gabby, your name spelling has changed. Is that really you? Or have you had to re-register for some reason?

Insomnia11 · 27/04/2011 15:15

Not sure whether I qualifiy as an "esteemed Mumsnetter"...but anyway.

I don't buy or read a daily newspaper as there are none which I like, and never have on a regular basis. I listen to the Today programme every morning and watch Newsnight and the ten o' clock news (though mainly because DH does). Other than that I find out stuff via Twitter. Occasionally I go on the Guardian website but not as much as I used to.

I don't read any 'women's magazines' either other than in the hairdressers, then it only serves as a reminder as to why normally I don't bother.

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 27/04/2011 15:16

funny interesting way to start a thread. Very Market-research comprehensively introduced...

GabbyLagoon · 27/04/2011 15:19

Insomnia ,,,you are about like me.

Donnie. well hack is just a vulgar name for a writer. Some are good and some not so.

Whisper this...I was asked to name change for the r wedding. Gabby is commentating on radio 5-live. (Tricky top royals are involved) shush

Why do all these threads ostensibly look like a debate, but are actually patronising twaddle?

I think we are probably all intelligent enough to tell the difference between Gabby Logan and you in all your various guises, despite your vastly superior opinion of yourself intellect.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/04/2011 15:23

I don't read ANY, Gabby. Tell a lie... the last one I read was Le Monde, but as my French isn't all it could be, I doubt that counts.

I think that all of the 'newspapers' - and I use that term 'news' loosely - have become nothing more than various opinions being promoted, with the paper being used as a platform. To me, news should be undisputed facts of occurences, I don't want 'slants' being put on those facts, I can deduce things for myself.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 27/04/2011 15:26

I try to read the Antwerp Gazette. I don't know what it says though.
Gabby, with all due respect, I seriously doubt you are doing anything royal wedding related, let alone commenting on the radio. You maybe are planning to stand in your kitchen talking down a toilet roll tube to your audience of Barbie dolls, but to the nation? I don't think so.

PrettyCandles · 27/04/2011 15:34

Of course she's not the real GL. For one thing, she can barely string two sentences together - her posts rarely make much sense. The real GL is rather more articulate.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 27/04/2011 15:37

prettycandles, you are right, the real gabby has a profile when you click on her name.
Shame.
I stand by my statement about toilet rolls though.

GabbyLagoon · 27/04/2011 15:41

Lyingwitch Le Mone counts, toot sweet. Undisputed facts, can be a tall order in life;but I see what you mean. Yes the papers all have an angle. Try thelittle "I" its new

not wave ....superior intellects. Not me, and Gabby would not even pretend to be an intellectual. shes into clothes, family and luxury. Its on ze internet

Kreech I shall be parodying Gabby and others in a pre-royal wedding
spoof on mumsnet today (God willing )are you a daily mail reader?

I shall do humour. Flummery and mock regality abhor humour. noticed???

kreecherlivesupstairs · 27/04/2011 15:43

No, pretend fantasy Gabby, I am not. I have already stated that I try to read the Antwerp Gazette. Failing that, Brasschaat times or observer is a challenging read.

oohlaalaa · 27/04/2011 15:48

I buy the independent to read, probably about once or twice a week.

I do have a tendency to use the daily mail website for gossip, skimming the article, glancing at the photo's, and then reading the best rated comments.

ArfurBrain · 27/04/2011 15:51

daily sport went tits up. I mean bust..i mean, oh well, never mind....

I like the new i .
I read the Guardian on saturday.

AbsDuCroissant · 27/04/2011 15:52

I like to spread myself around - big NYTimes fan, I find myself getting Annoyed and Amused in equal measure with the Grauniad and the DM and the Torygraph, particularly the comments section of Lifestyle in the Grauniad. All these people getting het up because the grauniad DARES to publish something as fluffy as pasta recipes, rather than being all super serious and high brow. I daren't go near the comments section of the DM as I feel a stroke coming on.

Otherwise, Le Monde (check me), Economist and GoFugYourself for sleb and clothing news.
