to expect my kids to want to play with toys?

6, 4 & 2. Is it me?? Whole days go by when they seem to be far more entertained by whining and whinging, asking for drinks and winding each other up than by the train track or dressing-up clothes. Should I give them all away? (the toys, not the kids [cgrin])

YANBU. But my kids, 7, 5, 2 are exactly the same. They seem to think being sent to their room full of toys is a punishment. I found that when I removed a bunch of their toys and only left one kind out at a time, they played far better. I think maybe they are too spoiled with too wide a variety and it confuses them...

Hmmm... maybe I'll stick 'em all in the loft for a week or so & see what happens

Have they got a lot of toys? Sometimes children find it quite overwhelming if there are too many and can't really see what's there.

Even at that age I used to rotate toys and put some up in the loft for a couple of weeks and then swap them over.

Mine seem to like -making a mess- doing artwork best. Dollies and cuddly toys get played with a lot too. Older one likes board games. Also they both like Happytown stuff and dressing up. When they aren't on the trampoline anyway.

DD is 4 and rarely plays with her toys (she doesn't have lots, I'm a miser !) She prefers to follow me round the house with her endless chattering which drives me up the wall. Once we took all her toys away when she was naughty, they were gone for days, and all she could say was "Oh well, Never mind ) !

Yup, I threatened dd in a jokey rage that I'd give all her toys away.
"Never mind," she said "We can make some out of cardboard boxes"

Hmm Grin
