So Happy 85th Birthday for today Queen Liz if you're reading this... I found it pretty interesting as someone who always gets pissed off at the people who go "oh blah blah the royals sit on their arses all day costing us money and give nothing back - my taxes pay for their life"

How dare you question people's right to complain about the Queen, the Wedding, the bank holidays (possibly with good weather , too), the fact that some communities are having parties to celebrate. YABVVVVVVVVU.

The sooner we move to some miserable, socialistic little republic with a seedy president, the better.

I think The Queen does a great job - how would you like it if your diary was so booked into the future you knew what you would be doing in 5 year's time???!!!

She's been a great Monarch, made a few mistakes, but overall has served her country with loyalty and steadfastness.

some thoughts for you

the Monarchy is unfair on those who are born into it - they have no choice in the matter

the Monarchy is anti-democratic and anti-meritocracy

the Monarchy is patricarchal and discriminative on gender and ethnic lines

I'm only yanking your chain activate just thought it was interesting and you proved my EXACT point which is people say how much they hate the windsors as they are expensive to run etc etc but they have NO IDEA. Their hatred isn't based on any fact or research. I'm not saying the video isn't maybe all a croc of shit, I have no idea. But if it IS true (which i'm sure someone could find out if they wanted) then good on the monarchy I say!

It works on the basis that the royal family owned big chunks of the country and if they let us have some of the profits on it they are doing us a favour.

But every dictator can say they own most of a country and most put billions into Swiss bank accounts against the day when the serfs say "hang on a minute...you only own it because you waved your hand and said 'that is all mine'"

They are parasites and aside from the cost their existence prevents this being a true democracy. I find the arrogance of people like Charles offensive and the people eager to bow and curtsey to them amaze me. I can see why it works for him to think he is better than normal people, but why are normal people eager to say "he is so much better than me"

I totally agree lockets I wouldn't swap with them for the world... but thats not what the video is about (or what my post was about)

How can the Monarchy be said to be discriminate on ethnic lines? It's no more discriminatory than any other family, members of whom may choose to marry a white person, if they're white, or a black person, if they're black.

And the gender discrimination will probably change.

If we stuffed them all and put them in comedy poses round Buckingham palace I'm sure the tourists would still come.....

I don't understand how we can still have monarchy in what is supposed to be a democracy.

It isn't the queen and immediate family I dislike so much as the large amounts of hangers on and coat tail riders that grind my gears. Also the massive amount of toadying and curtseying and walking backwards out of the room - ridiculous.
I think it shows some peoples need to feel subservient, to have someone to look up to.

I agree that it could probably strip itself down and modernise. Just have the immediate family and fewer extended family members doing 'stuff'. Though some of those extra people do actually work very hard for the country. Princess Anne, for instance.
