To wonder that if the dustbin lorry throws the bottles around

Why cant I put broken glass in my bottle bin?

DS put the glaff through on the shed door last week. Luckily it was in quite big pieces so I picked it all up and put it in the glass box.

This morning there is a note in it saying they wont collect it because it has broken glass in it. I could understand if they were actually touching the glass, but they just pick up the big glass box and hook it on the machine. Every so often the machine empties into itself and you hear the very loud sound of breaking glass, so they dont exactly stay intact.

AIBU, or is there some special reason why broken glass cant be recycled?

Good question, would love to know the answer. But where we live, they are put into sort of crate things on the back of a lorry, so I can see why they don't want smashed glass as the bottle etc don't tend to smash when they pour them in.

The glass in jars and bottles is made from a different type of glass which is used in baking and windows.

Ah, so its not about it being broken, but the type of glass.
