To not really like the hot weather?

WriterofDreams · 20/04/2011 09:42

Please tell me I'm not alone. Everyone is raving about the hot weather we're having at the moment but I really don't like it. I like sunshine but the heat really wears me out and I absolutely hate sweating. The last couple of days I've been completely wiped out in the evening from it. I don't mind heat too much when I'm on holiday and I can spend all day in the sea or the pool but when I have to go about my normal business I much prefer sunny and cold.

Am I completely on my own in this one?

I wish the whole Summer was this temperature. Not too hot. It's not that warm at the moment, really. I certainly haven't been hot at night.

CareyFakes · 20/04/2011 09:52

I used to hate summer, but since losing weight and being able to wear more 'summery' clothes I love it. I don't like it too hot but then I just open the windows and wear less.

YABU! It's perfect weather! Low twenties, blue sky, bit of a breeze. Perfect for gardening, eating outside, but not too hot. What's not to like?!

ladymystikal · 20/04/2011 09:58

YABU! added up we're lucky to get about 3 weeks of hot weather a year in england. granted hot nights are hell, but we should all make the most of this gorgeous sunshine. Smile

WriterofDreams · 20/04/2011 10:03

Argh that's the kind of response I expected lol. It's just you and me bran. I'm exactly the same - always looking for shelter when I'm out. I like being indoors and it annoys me when I have to move from the lovely soft couch to hard outdoor chairs to "make the most of the weather." For me that means squinting against the glare (don't have contacts and my prescription sunglasses are broken) trying to get comfy on a stool/hard lawn chair, sweating, feeling too hot and longing to go inside. Plus I have little 5 month old now which makes it even harder as I don't want to lather him in sunblock but I don't want his bare skin exposed to the sun for too long either.

It was hell growing up as I have always disliked the sun but my dad is a sun fanatic and used to bug me non-stop for staying in the shade.

Count me in to your club. I hate being hot and sweaty. I like it sunny and cold. The thought of a long hot summer really fills me with with dread actually. I never how other people manage to look so cool and effortless. I hate sitting in the sun and squinting (find myself squinting even when wearing sunglasses). Why all this have to do everything outdoors, We have a perfectly lovely sitting room with COMFY chairs and tables and we don't have to carry everything back in at night. And please don't make me sit on grass. . .

I love being outside in the winter though. Grin

LynetteScavo · 20/04/2011 10:14

I've never been too hot in England.

pink4ever · 20/04/2011 10:15

Can I join the club please?. Hate hot weather, hate being outside, hate having to do the garden, hate barbeques, hate the way at the slightest hint of sun people walk about semi-naked. Hate it! I love winter-crisp cold days when you come in with red cheeks and curl up in front of fireGrin.

whyme2 · 20/04/2011 10:17

Roll on October Wink

WriterofDreams · 20/04/2011 10:18

Woohoo! I'm not a complete freak after all! The other thing that bugs me is having to wear fewer clothes - I hate hate hate shaving my legs and spend the whole winter completely hairy but of course when the summer comes the razor has to come out and it drives me mad. I have monkey legs so there is no way on earth I'd go out in shorts without shaving. I love wool jumpers and big coats and scarves :)

YABU. I read it is about 25 degrees in the UK, which I think it is perfect temperature.
In the 8 yrs we lived in the UK I've never suffered a single day of the weather being too hot.

Sunshine is life, enjoy!

Francagoestohollywood · 20/04/2011 10:21

Writerofdreams, I feel your pain re the monkey legs, it is a big problem of mine too and it is a nightmare during the summer months.

JulesJules · 20/04/2011 10:21

I hate hot weather, I hate the feeling of hot sun on my skin, hate feeling hot.

My favourite weather is sunny and COLD. Don't mind cloudy and cold.

I just don't have the skin for hot weather, I burn really easily, and feel listless and miserable if I get hot.

DH (who walks around happily in 40 degree heat) calls me "The Northern European"

bamboobutton · 20/04/2011 10:23

yanbu. i hate hot weather, anything over 20dgrees is boiling to me. i spend the whole summer with a headache and i get very grouchy.

roll on the autumn.

WriterofDreams · 20/04/2011 10:24

Oh and yet another thing that pisses me off - I'm breastfeeding and up till recently I was wearing a string top with another top over it so that I could easily feed in public without exposing my horrible belly. Well that's out the window now as it's just too bloody hot to wear two tops and I don't know what else to do :(

OP posts:
PfftTheMagicDragon · 20/04/2011 10:26

I like it about 16 degrees, with clear skies and a light breeze.

It was to hot for me yesterday. It looks nice from inside, but I hate being outside in the heat. I hate feeling like I need a shower 3 times a day and having to put sun cream on the kids every hour. I burn easily too.

lesley33 · 20/04/2011 10:28

I don't like hot weather either. I do like it when it is warm, but I hate that feeling of being sluggish because it feels too hot to do much. I tend to sit inside with all of the windows open.

And I hate barbecues - overcooked/burnt sausages/burgers that you would never serve to guests if they were coming round for a meal in your kitchen. I do go to them, but just for the chance to chat to friends.

HerRoyalHighnessPrincessCervix · 20/04/2011 10:31

jeesus if it's that bad that you are moaning about it in April what the chuff do you do in august? and why don't you just move somewhere colder. like shetland or somewhere.

'Hot and sweaty' in +23C? Hmm Are you sure you are healthy?

I hate +30s in England as houses generally do not have aircon installed.

Francagoestohollywood · 20/04/2011 10:36

Lol you lot deserve the crap weather, then Grin...

Francagoestohollywood · 20/04/2011 10:36

Never witnessed a day with 30 degrees in the uk

onehotmomma · 20/04/2011 10:40

YANBU, The temp atm is perfect but when summer gets into full swing I hate it. Upstairs is like a sauna so I'm unable to sleep and I can't have the windows open as we have loads of wasps fly in. Bastard things.

I find I can't do much housework during the day either as I sweat like a pig and it's horrible. Also the sun sets of migraines so me too. Plus side is I don't have to use my tumble dryer Grin

bemybebe · 20/04/2011 10:42

"Never witnessed a day with 30 degrees in the uk"

Oh, I did. It was 2003 and I was travelling in my car without aircon on the hottest day in the year.

"The UK record of 37.1 °C at Cheltenham on 3 August 1990 was beaten by a number of stations on 10 August 2003, with Brogdale, near Faversham (Kent) reporting the highest at 38.5 °C." from the Metoffice website.

I had to make regular stops (5 hours drive) and really thought at one stage I would not make it.

Needless to say my next car was with proper working aircon system.
