To not really like the hot weather?

WriterofDreams · 20/04/2011 09:42

Please tell me I'm not alone. Everyone is raving about the hot weather we're having at the moment but I really don't like it. I like sunshine but the heat really wears me out and I absolutely hate sweating. The last couple of days I've been completely wiped out in the evening from it. I don't mind heat too much when I'm on holiday and I can spend all day in the sea or the pool but when I have to go about my normal business I much prefer sunny and cold.

Am I completely on my own in this one?

Really? 2003 was one of the hottest years ever. We lived in Devon, I can't remember it being hotter than 28 (perfect imo) and it always got cooler at night.

agedknees · 20/04/2011 10:47

I remember the very hot temps of 2003. Luckily I was living in the North East of Scotland so we had it cooler.

Like sunny hot days when I am on holiday, but when I am working it is a nightmare.

And hate the hot sticky nights.

tyler80 · 20/04/2011 10:48

I was trying to remember which year was the super hot year, I was living in the USA at the time and we had a crap summer so I was most put out to find it was 30+ in the UK.

I don't think it's unreasonable to dislike hot weather, it's unreasonable to think the current weather is hot however!

YABU. I love the sun, the warm, the light. It's never really really hot in the UK. Mind you I do live in the country where it is probably fresher than in a city and everywhere looks so lovely now.

valleyqueen · 20/04/2011 10:52

Love this weather 25 is a perfect temp for me and I much prefer my shorts and vest tops to heavy winter clothes.

I do burn though and have to have a hat at all times and re apply my sun cream a lot but I still feel happier in the warm sunshine.

exhausted2011 · 20/04/2011 10:53

I know what you mean about hating sweating, but I think it's perfect temperature right now.
This is beautiful weather for me

btw if you get out in the sun, you might feel a bit better!

MaMattoo · 20/04/2011 10:58

Not at all. I dont like the hot weather either. Dont like the heat of the sun, the sweaty, muggy feeling. No..I like the clouds..quite a bit actually. Living the right country now I think.

hardhatdonned · 20/04/2011 10:59

YANBU i am dreading the summer if this is spring, i'm melting already.

muminthecity · 20/04/2011 11:00

YABU and a bit of a grump! You get your cold weather for about 10 months of the year, so let us sun lovers enjoy our tiny bit of sunshine and warmth while it lasts! Grin

FattyAcid · 20/04/2011 11:01

Portable aircon units are great for hot summer nights Wink

perfumedlife · 20/04/2011 11:08

YANBU but I hate it for different reasons. In Scotland, you see the sun, go out in minimal clothes, along comes a cloud and suddenly you are freezing Angry This place never warms up enough for the shade to be warm. So, a sunny day out involves intricate planning with spare cardis, brollies and hats.

Even if it stays nice, along come the barbies and the wine, drunks every bloody where you look. Desperate partying before the sun goes.

Love winter, at least you know how to dress, and I love the dark nights.

it's not too bad at the moment but once that temp starts hitting 28/29 degrees.... oh man, i'm definitely an autumn and winter girl! i don't mind a bit if sun if it's not hot, like an october day or something.

i hate feeling sweaty (even in thin clothes)

i hate trying to hide the pink bingo wings and mummy-tummy muffin-top

i hate having celtic-frizzy hair that goes like a burst couch

i hate having a glowing top lip and flushed face

i hate when people say 'god you look hot' and they don't mean hot like kylie or eva longeria or some such other beauty.

i hate the bloody beautiful, unflustered people who always sit next to me on the tube making me look even worse, ffs.

i can just about tolerate the heat if i'm on a beach and can swim in the sea and/or have a nice pina colada under a tree.

dp - with italian roots - says i'm miserable and from the north pole.

he is right.

bah bloody humbug

clitorisorclitoraint · 20/04/2011 11:21

YANBU. 18 degrees is about right for me. Anything more and I start moaning. Summer is great for making you feel fat and ugly Hmm

A1980 · 20/04/2011 11:28

I'd hardly call low twenties too hot.

I never get to see it as I travel to work when it's still cool in the morning and leave the office when it's cooled down for the evening. Aircon is on at the office. 45 mins at lunch in the sunshine is all I get.

Try getting office jobs if you can't stand the heat. It could be 35 degrees outside right now and I would not have a clue Grin

YABU by the way.

Ginabraz · 20/04/2011 11:39

OMG - I am really reading this correctly! This is not hot in the true sense. I don't know what to say to the OP at all. Wow.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 20/04/2011 11:57

YABU - I just love the summer....wish we had it like this all the time.

Us Brits...we moan when it's too cold, me moan when it's too hot............I cant wait for it to heat up even more and wouldnt it be great if it was consistentely hot till Autumn!

sausagesandmarmelade · 20/04/2011 11:57

Don't mind it hot if there's a bit of a breeze...

can't stand it tho when it's too hot..and tend to stay out of the sun and in the shade...and I might add that I ALWAYS use sun creams.

Lambskin · 20/04/2011 12:03

I'm going to sit on the fence (in the shade) for this one.

I hate heat, really, really hate it. I also can't stand the flies, the wasps, people telling me to get outside and get a bit of colour on me, wearing less clothes, sweating, and not being able to sleep at night.

However, this is just right. If this could be summer I would be very happy.

BarefootShirl · 20/04/2011 12:04

Loving this warm weather - seems to have been a very long winter starting with the snow in Nov(?).

I think I was born in the wrong country tho as I absolutely love the heat and sunshine.

And I've got it right for once as I'm not working this week - although that was a fluke as it's due to the school hols!

I feel sorry for those who don't like the heat but I've got the bikini on and I'm off to do some gardening before taking DC to the park this afternoon Smile.

tjacksonpfc · 20/04/2011 12:06

The best thing about this weather is you can chuck the ds outside to play and they don,t moan. Also you can have salad for dinner without strange looks. can't wait for our chicken salad tonight and ds can't wait for our bbq to come out he would have one everyday if he was allowed lol.

hogsback · 20/04/2011 12:10

Oh come on, 20-24C is pleasantly warm, not hot.

CareyFakes · 20/04/2011 12:15

Whoa on the Bikini...

I'm in crops, vest top and small bolero, beautifully cool and looking darn fine I might add with my big specs and huge hair ha

JellyQuivvers · 20/04/2011 12:19

Another thumbs down for the summer here......I actually get quite panicky when it gets too hot Blush (another fair-skinned easily-burned Celt here) and feel very calm when Autumn arrives. What winds me up is people (my other half especially) who cannot understand this reaction and assume that everyone just LOVES everything about the summer.
One good thing - getting washing dried outside Grin!
