because he has been out of the country for 4 and a half months and wants to visit his elderly parents 2 and a half hours away.

I know he needs to see his parents but I am loathe to take DD out of school ( 4 yo in rec) after she missed 2 weeks in October when my Dad passed away.

AIBU?

YANBU i would be doing the same if i could get the time off work, with an inset day on tuesday DC will only be in for 2 days anyone - one is lost for a 'street party' for the wedding.

Take them out. Quality time with Daddy is far more important!!

ThingOne · 19/04/2011 20:08

Yes, you are! Half the class will be away. And she's four!

squeakytoy · 19/04/2011 20:08

I would say at 4 years old, it really wouldnt be a problem, and it would be nice for her to see her grandparents too.

NinkyNonker · 19/04/2011 20:09

Hell I would.

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 19/04/2011 20:09

Are you afraid she'll miss advanced trigonometry?

HecateQueenOfTheNight · 19/04/2011 20:09

At 4, I'd have to agree - no big deal.

GingerWrath · 19/04/2011 20:11

Winter no just missing a violin recital ;)

Explain the issue, write a letter saying all the above and INFORM them that DD will be absent for those 3 days.

AFAIK, school isn't compulsory until they are 5 or the term that they are 5.... not 100% sure of this though.

madwomanintheattic · 19/04/2011 20:13

take her out. most schools are fine with post-deployment stuff. it should get approved without a problem. just write a letter to the ht today, explaining.

and she's only 4. as others have said, i bet half the class will be missing anyway, and she won't exactly miss anything life-altering.

MaisyMooCow · 19/04/2011 20:16

I agree with the others, take her out. It really won't do her any harm.

penguin73 · 19/04/2011 20:18

If DH has been away for work (mil?) then I definitely would (and have) done this with no adverse effects and with the school's blessing. PODL is one thing the head can give authorised absence for, no questions asked.

duckypoo · 19/04/2011 20:19

Take her out, mine are only back for 2 days, I can't imagine anything important will get done.

GingerWrath · 19/04/2011 20:20

Thanks all, I was half convinced but needed to soothe my guilty conscience.

GingerWrath · 19/04/2011 20:28

Thanks..It is PODL was I that obviously MIL?

hardhatdonned · 19/04/2011 20:29

PODL??

GingerWrath · 19/04/2011 20:33

Post Operational Deployment Leave..when people have leave after doing time in a war zone.

penguin73 · 19/04/2011 20:34

No but madwoman was!

Grabaspoon · 19/04/2011 20:41

No issues - I would do the same.

Your DD is only little and won't miss out on anything.

madwomanintheattic · 19/04/2011 21:16
Blush oops. sorry!
