AIBU?
to think some Mancunians might dislike SHAMELESS on TV

SHAMELESS is a programme which has won many tv awards. (Deservedly
so I suppose) There is some bril acting in the series.
I suppose the problem may come because it is featured in a specific part of the country.
TILSLEY ..a bbc 5-Live broadcaster jokes it is about his home town BURNLEY
An Essex woman was bemoaning the ESSEX prog the other evening. She said "None of us are like that."
Is it better than Shameless in your opinion

Having grown up in Manchester, and (mis)spent my youth there.. I know from first hand experience that Shameless is very very true to life on a lot of the estates in the area.
Burnley is an awful awful place too...
As for the Essex one, maybe not ALL of them are like that, but an awful lot of them are!

I've heard it's based on the area I grew up in, as one of my friends is good friends with the original writer (and he bloody grew up in this place too).
The place I grew up in is very similar to Shameless and it makes me cringe, I can't watch the show, but then it wouldn't be my type of TV programme anyway.
(thank goodness I got out of said area as soon as I could)

Shameless is the only thing I watch on Tv! I live in Essex and have never watched TOWIE. If I felt the need to see bunch of parading arses I'd watch a porn film
Mancunians are known for their sense of humour, why would they care, the writer is a genius, the casting is inspired and if Frank Gallegher can laugh at himself so should the rest of us.
Lighten up...oh it's you Gabby, not a chance then

The same was said about Paul Calf when he first appeared, if you go to certain areas there are Paul Calf and Frank Gallaghers around (there's a guy I've seen who's the spit of Frank down to the long greasy hair and green coat).
It's taken in good humour as it's known that some parts are very much like that.

Interesting....but it seems to me that any group of people who are fictionalised on TV say. We know we are not like that.
The gypsies who got massive publicity asked for an apology. (But that was a dock u mentary.)
Kate and wills will not have cause to complain about the blanket coverage of the tryst. (Unless Charlie Brooker get in on the act)
