to think pictures taken of yourself look a bit stupid?

I probably am being VU but every time I see a picture of somebody with their arm stretched out obviously holding a camera/phone, or worse, taken in front of a full length mirror holding a camera, I can't help but think they look horribly contrived!

I mean ones specifically put up on places like Facebook to generate comments like "u look stunnin" rather than (for example) pics to record a growing bump in pregnancy ... Though I think I'd still ask someone else to take the pic for me!

agree, though people at major landmarks or in amazing places when travelling are excused... but why not use the self-timer?

Rowan49 · 19/04/2011 18:27

For a lot of my friends the only landmarks in question are the bath and toilet!

YANBU.

I love the "wow hun, you look gawjuss" comments, when quite clearly, the person really does NOT look anything close to "gawjuss" Grin

ViolaTricolor · 19/04/2011 18:38

Grin Babe, u look AMAZING!!!

YANBU.

doley · 19/04/2011 18:44

YANBU at all Grin I always enjoy the toilet in the background :)

FriedEggyAndSlippery · 19/04/2011 18:45

I've done photos for DH - not just dirty ones, but when trying on clothes...

To post on Facebook though? Why would you? Weird!

TorcherQueenie · 19/04/2011 18:45

YABU I only allow photos I took of myself to be posted Grin I do however use my laptop webcam and no arm stretching or duck lips involved!

EvilTwins · 19/04/2011 18:47

Is that not something that only teenagers do? All the teenagers I am FB friends with (not many - a babysitter, a god-daughter and a couple of cousins) do that, but no actual adults.

nepenthe3 · 19/04/2011 18:48

YANBU.
I really don't get people having 'posed' photos of themselves on their facebook profile either. The only reason can be to 'fish' for compliments, surely? I thought it was just me being grumpy.

TheMonster · 19/04/2011 19:16

gawjuss? GAWJUSS???!!!! Do people really spell it like that?

TheMonster · 19/04/2011 19:21

Oh. My. God.

PossetFeatures · 19/04/2011 20:16

That picture has made my night panzee! Grin

OP, YANBU- looks ridiculous and reminds me of teenagers on sites other than facebook eg bebo

Meglet · 19/04/2011 20:21

I do it sometimes as I can go months without anyone taking a photo of me.

Rowan49 · 19/04/2011 21:08

Haha

but - YUCK! Grin

My friend has one of her, her T-shirt rucked up and tied just under her boobs, sticking out her tongue and holding a camera. To be fair it's not in a bathroom but her full length mirror in her bedroom. Even so ...

Ohh this really annoys me too. My friend (in her 30s) must have about 40 pictures of herself on FB all taken by herself. She has the pose down to a tee - duck lips and squinting eyes, they don't even look like her properly. Loads of men compliment the pics. Cringeworthy

Sorry rant over!!!

Gemsy83 · 19/04/2011 22:09

I know a couple of grown adults who post these kind of pics on a regular basis, they are very vain though and want the comments off people

Rowan49 · 19/04/2011 22:16

Meglet, I do know what you mean, I end up having to ask my dad but he's hopeless with the camera and by the time he's done you have this weird grimace as so fed up! I find photos taken by oneself look a bit odd though!
