DH and I were shocked - you couldn't get anything remotely healthy (that went for most of the restaurants too) no wonder the US has such an obestiy problem if even huge commercial ventures serve bloody burgers, fries, fried chicken, chicken ceaser (sad soggy lettuce drowned in full fat dressing), pizza and hot dogs, pop corn and corn dogs.

I have come back about 7lbs heavier and with a face full of spots and I triend to steer clear of the crap as much as I could.

I got excited about having steamed broccoli when I saw it on a menu to find that it had been steamed and then flash fried with some ultra salty dressing - incredible!

We went to disney and rarely ate on site. We went to walmart and bought raisin bran (my fav cereal over there) and crispies for the kids and ate them in the food hall with fresh milk in the mornings. The one morning we had a bakery breakfast(cos we were doing a brunch at one of the restaurants) and my kids struggled with it.

We ate off site a lot as ponderosa and golden coral and sweet tomatoes were cheap as chips with decent salad bars and buffets. (less than $40 and when we went the rate of exchange was £2.05 to the dollar)

We tended to do restaurants which had decent menu's and you can research this before you go on various sites. I came back lighter than we went and that included ice creams and the odd cocktail and chips sometimes.

yes, the newport bay does a great buffet with lots of veg and fruit but it is very expensive.

It was impossible to buy a cheap/reasonably priced snack with some veg content. We resorted to tomato soup from Toad Hall one day and it was hot water with a few essence of tomato drops in it. Truly pathetic.

Don't think you did your research! Lots of options if you know where to look at Disney World Florida. Allears.net or wdwinfo.com carry all the menus.

They do a dining plans - free if you book to stay at certain times.

Some really nice restaurants and a great opportunity to introduce kids to different types of food - did you go to the hibbachi restaurant Teppan edo or the Italian Tutto italia? These are both inside the parks.

All the restaurants especially the disney buffets have lots of fresh fruit.

All the kids meals come with fruit and veg - you have to ask to substitute fries.

Disneyland paris is a a totally different situation 5euro for a microwaved mickey pizza!

I've been to Disney, and also several other places in the US. I've actually LOST weight while holidaying in the US. You just have to know where to go. For Disney I suggest you try Epcot. DH and I spent most of our evenings there in the Japanese restaurants. One the evenings we didn't eat out we would pop to our resort shop and pick up bowls of fruit.

My favourite restaurant chain in the US is Red Lobster... fresh seafood and juicy steaks, and very healthy. There is one right next to Magic Mountain Theme Park too.

Corn dogs are the wrongest thing ever. I had one the first time I went to Disney age 7 and I still have nightmares about it 23 years later.

WiganLady · 22/04/2011 23:03

when I was at Disney, Florida a while ago I noticed many obese persons riding on motorised vehicles similar to golf buggies, at first I thought they were disabled people but I soon realised they were'nt. YANBU about the food, yuk.

RoadArt · 23/04/2011 00:54

One thing Ive noticed is that all the restaurants being promoted as serving good food are the expensive ones. When you are feeding a large family its not affordable to eat in them

But the subject is about food inside the Disney complexes, not outside

Well next year were there for 3 weeks and have researched the resturants as were on the ringing plan and there's plenty of options healthy ones foradults and kids

Wigan have you considered thatthay may be obese because of disablity.I am overweight and ironic at Xmas I kickstarted new me and list over 2 1/2 stone with diet and the gym .still have more to go but hit a bog hiccup due to injury to my spinal cord and will hate to think anyone will think I'm using a scooter or chair just because I'm fat.I may be able to walk a small distance by then or I may not

not saying that they are not using because of just weight but there may be more behind it

Though we won't be limiting ourselves to staying on site do intend to be out and about Orlando at other places to and seeing the other side of it
