AIBU to say something to neighbours drilling and hammering at 9am this morning?

I was up and dressed but visitors we have staying were not, I could understand starting early if they were having huge building works done or had a building firm in but they are simply decorating their spare bedroom!

I may be being unreasonable but wanted to check out the general opinion before knocking on their door!

8am fine on weekdays, maybe 9am on a Saturday and 10am on a Sunday but weekdays it's fair game I'm afraid. Our neighbours builders regularly turn up before 8am (as did ours I hasten to admit).

PheasantPlucker · 19/04/2011 11:07

Anything from 8 on a weekday is perfectly fine. YABU

Northernlurker · 19/04/2011 11:07

Yes you are very, very unreasonable.
Tbh I'm flabbergasted you even had to ask - what kind of person thinks they are so entitled to silence that their neighbours may not make DIY type noise in normal working hours? 9am is NOT early.

coastgirl · 19/04/2011 11:08

YABU - DH and I are both teachers and enjoyed a well-earned lie-in this morning, but equally might have wanted to get up early(ish) and do some DIY. Usually at 9 I'm in front of a class of kids, I don't see that as early at all!

YABU Any time from 8am is fine IMO.

You obviously don't live in my road or your guests would have been awake since 7.50, due to a small child screaming as though having his arm wrenched off as I manhandled persuaded him into his car seat Grin

Pootletrinket · 19/04/2011 11:14

Only Easter hols if you're able to take time off work to be with the kids!

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 19/04/2011 11:16

YABU - it's 9am on a week day!

What time would you consider appropriate?

YABU I'm afraid. 9am perfectly reasonable time during the working week.

Northernlurker · 19/04/2011 11:18

Kerrymumbles - it's only holidays for those with school age children who can take time off work. That's not the MAJORITY of the population.

Jaydles · 19/04/2011 11:18

Surely even if you are at home with the kids they are awake by 9am or am I missing something that gets them to stay in bed past 7?

Picture perfect. All children happily occupied with telly/consoles and parents in bed. And yet ... something doesn't feel quite right ....

Pootletrinket · 19/04/2011 11:26

Yes, am sure most working single mums get 13 weeks holiday a year that they can take off to coincide with school hols!! :o

goodbyemrschips · 19/04/2011 11:29

Your lucky it is not a buiding site. I am having a house built next to me ''southfork'' I call it.

9am yabu .

Jaydles · 19/04/2011 11:34

I long for the days when my dcs occupy themselves until 9.30 and I can have a well deserved lie in. Mrs Chips I too live next door to a neighbour who has been renovating his house since Christmas. It is pretty much everyday of the week from 7.30am and lucky me from 8.30 on a Sunday
