After a conversation with EduStudent, I'm currently working on a plan to have a skill that will delight my DGC but horrify my DC for my GreyBristlyYears.

It may involve toads and only eating food beginning with C.

What will be your peculiarity?

Grin

why wait? so many dogs. so many prams. so little time.

dawntigga · 18/04/2011 16:12

I'm going to try and get a glass eye and keep in in a jar.

My Uncle Ern had one and I use to be delightfully disgusted by it.

HecateQueenOfTheNight · 18/04/2011 16:15

Agree. Why wait?

I am the crazy lady in Tesco singing along and dancing a bit.

I'm the woman doing the wizard of oz yellow brick road 'dance' down the street, with my kids.

Hopscotch. I love hopscotch. Don't quite dare these days of course, I'd probably knock myself out with my tits.

ProfYaffle · 18/04/2011 16:22

I've said this loads of times on here so sorry for repeating myself, but my plan is to retire to a chic city pad and become a disgraceful old bar fly lush - and I'm only half joking.

Atm we live in a small, rural market town and have a lovely outdoorsy life with allotments etc which is fab for the kids but the idea of being old and infirm here is a bit scary. I want to be in the middle of things with lots of facilities, public transport etc

BringBackGoingForGold · 18/04/2011 16:48

Yaffle, that sounds profoundly sensible to me. With my plans, I'll have to live in the city; otherwise there won't be enough annoying cinema talkers/pretty young men for me to harass talk to.

I'm planning on having hair so enormous and streaked with weird colour that it alarms small children. Also: drawing on highly unlikely eyebrows is tempting. Really want a miniature pony, and a goat. And a garden with all of the most tasteless flowers I can cram into it.

KatieWatie · 18/04/2011 17:37

I'm getting a snake, and also making house alterations which will include a slide out of the upper storey window into the garden, and an internal fireman's pole (ooh err)

patindahat · 18/04/2011 17:57

my 94 year old mother died on april fools day this year a few weeks before she died she staged a lennon/ono bed in to demand yorkshire tea bags and veet (facial whiskers) for all the lady residents of her nursing home. all demands were acceded to.

AtYourCrucifix · 18/04/2011 18:01

i shall only eat pudding. and sing very loudly in public.

your ma sounds brilliant pat.

Itchywoolyjumper · 18/04/2011 20:11

One of my role models for eccentric older age is a wee lady I saw on a bus many years ago - she wouldn't believe the driver was old enough to drive, despite his protestations, so she held up the whole cue while she made him get out his driving licence to prove it (and he looked about 35 Grin)

I'm really liking the eyebrow thing, Picmaestress. Do you mind if l wear mine with one of those round and round feather hats and a brown hairy tweed coat, which I will wear in all weathers?

MayorNaze · 18/04/2011 20:15

eccentricity when old?? ha! try NOW!!

mil is always saying to me "Mayor, i must be careful, you can't just dress how you want at my age"

i say to her "MIL what a load of old piffle you should wear what you want dear"

then she looks at me like this Hmm

and retreats back inside her beige cardigan

no wonder we don't exactly see eye to eye

Vallhala · 18/04/2011 20:19

Why wait?

:o

Fernie3 · 18/04/2011 20:20

I plan to build an eco house, you know one of the ones where the roof is covered in grass and it looks a bit like tellytubby land. I (well dh will too although i havent told him yet)grow everything and live a self sufficient lifestyle cut off from the world - I may keep bees and roast things in a pit.

I am 27 now this is my plan for say when im 55 - I cant wait unti real old age because from what i have read its hard work...

mumcanIaskaquestion · 18/04/2011 21:16

I plan to do a 'shirley Valetine' but without the annoying men Grin.

as long as I'm somewhere hot in the summer and warm in winter.

Pengimum · 18/04/2011 21:32

everyone needs a retirement gig, mine was going to be opening a tea shop in whistable b4 it went all north london and trendy, selling really dire food with a house specaility of totally hard and inedible rock cakes x now i think i'll just take lods of drugs when all my kids have left home and perhaps take up with a man a fraction of my age.

theoldbrigade · 18/04/2011 22:06

I am almost there .....

But intend to have a glass of champagne for breakfast - well Winston Churchill had a point I feel.
I will NOT shave my legs or any other parts of my body - the indignity of a Brazilian will never be mine again.
Keeping cats not really an option as we do anyway - but suppose I could really annoy the neighbours and bring in a truck load.
Son thinks I am eccentric enough now - he could have a point.

Whatever, I intend to be totally reprehensible and enjoy every minute !!

meadowlarks · 18/04/2011 22:09

I shall mature like a fine cheddar - accumulating a little mould but nonetheless remaining most flavoursome. I'm eccentric enough as it is, to be honest. To give you a brief description of my life; I'm a meandering writer who does nothing but lounge and muse and look affectedly poor, I built my own house and it has secret staircases, bookcase doors and a contemplation chamber, I have hair that is indecently long, and I own one of every miniature species you can buy, including a pigmy goat called Professor Crump, a miniature horse called Atticus and a mini pig called Hector. Oh yes, and I own a hot air balloon. Wacky.

Saltire · 18/04/2011 22:12

I am going to irritate the hell out of my DSes. DH and I have already told them we will go round their houses and draw on the walls and piss all over the floor then say "it wasn't me" and smile lovingly at them.
We are also going to ask for food then screw our faces up and refuse to eat it, and then ask for biscuits 15 minutes later
And say "aw, do I have to" when they ask us to do soemthing for them

ByTheSea · 18/04/2011 22:16

DH and I want to move back into the city and have walkable or at least easy public transport access to everything and lots of it -- restaurants, pubs, bookshops, museums, parks, wonderful shops stocking everything you could want including lots of ethnic food, airports, etc., etc.

halfcaffordableLidlEasterEggs · 18/04/2011 22:19

I plan to start smoking when I am old.

scottishmummy · 18/04/2011 22:29

i plan to dress like pat butcher, and be profane
start sentences with in my day...
eat noisy rustley sweeties in cinema
slurrrrrrrrrrrrp tea loudly
take up smoking, rollies

RedbinD · 18/04/2011 22:41

I'm going to hang around Mumsnet while pissed and offer gratuitous, useless advice. Plus ca change.

Ninx · 18/04/2011 22:47

DH is sniggering at "Twilight Years" by the way Hmm

But people my age who have read Twilight can be seriously fucking funny
