AIBU?

Royal Wedding - again!

There are so many 'I don't care about the Royal Wedding' comments on here. I've just got back from a weekend in London and the enthusiasm for the marathon runners was amazing. The runners had their names on their vests so complete strangers could yell encouragement, and yell they did.

These same people and many thousands more will be cheering for the happy couple a week on Friday and I for one am so excited. Thank god for these people who can always be relied upon to turn out with their Union Jacks and whoops of joy.

So, my first AIBU! I think generally we do care and the negative folk are in the minority.

I am going to work :( but I think a street party would be fun. Any excuse for a knees up. I am also nosey to see what Kate will be wearing. Its good to have something cheery on the news for a change.

YANBU

I just watched the BBC programme tonight about Royal Weddings and I was touched about the excitement everyone felt about the Queen Mother's wedding, the Queen's wedding and Princess Anne's wedding. And nobody was whinging about the taxpayer paying for it all. When did we all become such a miserable bunch?

YANBU: There is so much misery in this country at the moment that a Royal Wedding is just what we need to cheer ourselves up. My dad lives in sheltered accom and I am his carer. We are getting all the oldies involved and have even brought a 50 inch screen tv to watch it. Happy days :)

Yeah I can't wait for the Royal wedding! (& I'm not even British) I think they seem like a lovely couple and it will lift the mood of people, however for the haters it will only cause more annoyance. I can understand why people are annoyed but on a global level its something so positive for the U.K. that they should see some good in it.

Thank God for a positive Royal Wedding thread!

YANBU, I'm really looking forward to it to, the atmosphere is already building and I hope it's a great day for everyone!

YANBU - I'm glad I clicked on your thread and found it was a positive one, not a haters' one. I get tired of the haters.
There is a reasonable amount of enthusiasm for the Royal Wedding here in Australia as well, at least on the tv! Less on the ol' souvenirs (but that doesn't really bother me) apart from stamps - and I doubt there'll be any street parties, certainly not where I live - but still.

Good luck to them, I say - we heard on the news last night that they have invited lots of people from Kate's home village - good for them!

YANBU!

I'm going to have a rather busy day as I have antenatal that's likely to take up an entire morning and then I have to get a 5 hour train ride with my two girlies to meet my OH who is going ahead of us on holiday as he works half way there. So I'm going to miss the wedding and I am a little disappointed.

I think they get a hard time in general and I like having a royal family.

Couldn't care less about the wedding tbh,but I'm not English,or in England. (should that be Britain? The Queen is the Queen of England, and Charles is Prince of Wales, what is William's title? Is there a dedicated monarch for Scotland?)
Maybe if I were, I'd be more excited. I don't understand the anti-royal-wedding-feeling though. Surely,if you're just not in to it,turn it off?
At the very least, just think of it as a nice young couple starting out, no?

anyway in all my questioning, I forgot to anwer!
No, YANBU

messy - the Queen is queen of Scotland! William's title is Prince William of Wales though he'll probably become a Duke on his wedding day - a gift bestowed by the Queen.

I'm not a royalist but DD and I are looking forward to the wedding - it's a day to celebrate being British and showing the world what we do best: pomp and circumstance!

Bring out the bunting!

I am looking forward to the day and a bit of a street party the kids can't wait.....fun fun fun.

I use up more energy when I am bitter and twisted about things, it is less of an effort to be positive and happy.

I'm a republican, I just dont agree with ruling by birth. I hate the thought of having to bow or curtsey to anyone, just because they are born with a title. If we had a president at least it would just be one person and his wife, rather than whole family to support/protect. I find the whole idea of a monarchy elitist. I have no problem with them being rich, just dont like titles.

It is the same with the aristocracy, used to work with a girl who married a Lord, and she had Lady ...... on all her business cards after the wedding. As soon as she got pregnant she finished with her job, which I could not blame her for, I would have done the same. She wanted to use her title, which I considered "unfriendly" and on meeting her titled man acquuired an accent. It really was so fake, and she wasnt a very nice person. Her husband was rather unattractive, and not quite the full ticket, so I never felt envious in that sense, I just didnt like that she thought herself better / Lady Muck, with her married title.

Sorry rant over.

I am a hypocritical republican, I will still want to see her dress. I love pretty wedding dresses. Also, a friend is having a Royal Wedding Garden Party, and we will be joining them. It is nothing personal against Will and Kate, I just will not be fawning over them, or if I ever meet them, curtseying.

Lets let OOHLAALAA be the last negetive thing said on this thread.

Let us see if we can make a whole thread with out someone whinging.

Exactly oohlaalaa-I don't expect to ever meet them, but it doesn't stop a celebration.

WHINE ALERT!
YABU for starting a another thread about that wedding.YAWN!
Not interested in royal wedding, doesn't mean I'm negative, pessimistic, miserable. This is when the discussion becomes annoying - the assumption that because some people will not be celebrating the wedding they somehow don't know how to enjoy life.
I don't get all this union jack waving horseshit either - sorry. National pride/ patriotism just isn't part of my constitution. However it doesn't make me miserable!

I dont especially care about the marathon either.

People want to run 26 and a bit miles, that's up to them, but I have no desrire to watch them on TV.

I think the Queen may be the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Nothern Ireland and some overseas territories and possibly the Commonwealth too. Scotland definitely included (being the top bit of 'Great Britain')

Report
Whatevs · 18/04/2011 08:22

The marathon bores the arse off me, but at least people are doing it for charity.

The royal wedding? Why on earth would I get crushed among thousands of blue rinse tourists in the centre of London when I can spend the day doing something genuinely fun and -see what Kate's dress is like-- catch the headlines on the news later that day.

Look, I live in Londoner and I can say with some certainty that the vast majority of Londoners couldn't give a flying fuck about it beyond the fact that we get a day off work.

Sorry, not even terribly interested in what Kate's wearing.

Would love to be a fly on the wall to hear a few of Prince Phil's wedding gaffes though.

If it does not interest you why on earth did you even click on the thread and even more amazing you feel the need to comment.

Go spread your misery somewhere else.

Because this is posted on a forum that asks if you are being unreasonable? It asks a question...which invites a variety of answers. Quite straight forward really.
