To be a little bit sad to say goodbye to my sporty car as we replace it with a sensible family one

I know it is totally impractical to keep it as there is no room for a baby seat but will be sad to say goodbye, it has been a fun little car :(

YANBU, my parents said goodbye to their flash-but-utterly-impractical Triumph Spitfire when I came along and traded it in for a Ford Cortina (brown, with fake leather seats).

montymum · 17/04/2011 20:52

sounds delightful! Can you still buy brown cars??

I feel exactly the same about having to sell my mini!! You'd laugh at me if you could see me trying to get the buggy in and out of the front passenger seat so i know it has to go but i love it! Dp keeps trying to persuade me to get an estate car but I struggle to park the mini...

montymum · 17/04/2011 21:04

That does look fun- I could probably deal with that very quirky! We are trading my little TT for a BMW 3 series diesel it is just a little sensible for me.

Yanbu. I am swapping my beloved petrol guzzler for a more sensible diesel this week. Just gone out for what will be one of my last drives in it and have a lump in my throat Blush
I know it is just a car, so unimportant in the grand scheme of things but I lovely as my new car will be, I will never love it like I love my current one Sad.

montymum · 17/04/2011 21:22

Glad to hear it's not just me then. Yes they are just cars but we grow emotionally attached. I know I will soon forget about it when baby arrives and DH keeps reminding me how much money I will save on fuel!

Can you not keep it and buy another practical one. Put the sports car in storage and SORN it?

I keep my little sports car, but have a Honda Jazz as an everyday driver.

thenightsky · 17/04/2011 21:23

what car is it by the way?

I love mine so much I have a pic on profile Blush

scrivette · 17/04/2011 21:27

Everyone keep telling me I should get rid of my beloved Lotus Elise before the baby arrives, I just can't bear the thought of it! We do have a practical car as well so I am hoping I won't have to sell. So no, you are not being unreasonable.

montymum · 17/04/2011 21:29

It is just a little Audi TT- Not sure we could justify keeping it as already have a 2nd car and couldn't afford to keep 3. We did think about keeping the TT and trying to juggle other car around which one of us had the baby in the car but just seemed to get complicated. What car have you got thenightsky?

We BOTH had minis when my DD came along......and we managed with some clever manoeuvering of car seats and buggies. Now we have a boring BMW 318d, my Mini Cooper and a classic 79 mini. Even that teeny tiny 79 mini can cope with my now 3 dd!

The moral is: Love your car and keep it!

thenightsky · 17/04/2011 22:30

montymum I have a smart brabus roadster.. limited edition.

scrivette No way on God's earth I would let an Elise go Shock

firsttimemum77 · 17/04/2011 22:40

I had to do that with my gorgeous Toyota MR2 convertible when i was pregnant with DD! Was a 2 seater! Was hard choosing whether the car had to go or DH! Have a very grown up family car now!

Mumofaflump · 18/04/2011 00:59

Oh god no YANBU! I had a little MGF when I fell pregnant. I was dreading selling it. DF took the matter out of my hands and crashed it (not deliberately)! Wrote my little brm brm off in an instant.

I am adamant though that as soon as DS can sit in the front I'm getting another one. That he's paying for!

TechnoKitten · 18/04/2011 06:09

You are so not being unreasonable :) I also had a Toyota MR-S when I was pg with DS1, had to sell it as couldn't fit Bump behind the wheel! I was so sad when it was driven away.

I had a sensible car (vauxhall tigra) for a few years and now the boys are 3&4 I have a lovely MR-S again :) it's not forever! (and the MaxiCosi Tobi seat fits it perfectly!)

TheSkiingGardener · 18/04/2011 06:17

Same here. My lovely MGTF was swapped for an Audi A4.

sigh

My parents brought 2 of us up with an MGBGT, but prams and buggies and car seats mean it's more difficult to do that these days!
