To want to cut the cast off my foot???????

Tripped on the drive last week and went over on my foot. Have broken the metatarsal in my little toe. Foot is in plaster & I'm on crutches. Next appointment is 4 weeks. My toes look very swollen but foot doesn't hurt. I can't drive and hate being dependent on people to help me out. Have ditched the crutches and am seriously considering cutting the cast off myself. Anybody??

Ouch! I can sympathise, but I probably wouldn't reccomend taking the cast off! Maybe take advice off the next "sober" poster though Grin

I do feel for you x

As in all medical enquiries on MN, you should ring NHS Direct Grin

Seriously though, surely they wouldn't have gone to the expence and time of putting a cast on your foot if you didn't need it would they?

It might seem a long time to go until your appointment, but if you fuck your foot up you could have years of hassle from it.

Now put that saw down, now! No, don't cut it off. Nooooo

'Maybe take advice off the next "sober" poster though'

hehe, ignore me in that case and cut it off OP Grin

No, don't watch the saw film, not with all that foot chopping off business Grin

Well they told my mum she had broken something (I forget what) and it turned out she hadn't and she knew all along that it was ok, she was most put out!
So yes, they can go to all the trouble of putting on a cast for no reason

AgentZigzag · 17/04/2011 02:41

I love it you're not sure what your mum broke MrsR, 'Oh I dunno, it was her leg or skull or something' Grin

mycatoscar · 17/04/2011 07:05

best to leave it on, I would think but I sympathise as I've had my leg in plaster twice for 6 weeks each time - i used to have dreams about there being a zip in the cast so i could take it off LOL

MrsRhettButler · 19/04/2011 22:36

Grin I only just saw that agentzigzag, I just meant which bone specifically!
It was somewhere in her arm
The op was being so clear about which exact bone in her toe it was that I felt I should say that I wasn't sure of the precise bone

DP broke his wrist falling off his bike last year.....

It was in a cast and he got so fed up with it he cut it off after about a week.

I told him not to but he did it anyway and no problems..

Maybe he was lucky and it wasn't a bad break in the first place.

I wouldn't do it.

AgentZigzag · 19/04/2011 23:20

Did you have a thread about it reeling?

I had a look but couldn't find the one I'm thinking about.

MaisyMooCow · 19/04/2011 23:47

Does anyone remember that scene in misery where she 'hobbles' the guy. I am feeling the pain!

reelingintheyears · 19/04/2011 23:51

No i didn't....

It didn't seem to be a big deal...

His problem..

I thought he was a twat to do it but he was ok in the end.

He said it annoyed him too much and it was itching.
