to expect to feel my baby moving

I am 16+4 with DC3 and am so worked up today that I haven't felt any movement in this pregnancy yet. I'm not sure why I am so anxious as I heard heartbeat but I had a mmc in November and am not enjoying this pregnancy so far due to anxiety that something is wrong. I didn't make a note of it for sure but I'm sure I felt DS2 before 17 weeks. I am so worried today.

I felt no movement before 19 weeks with my DD. My DS was closer to 22 weeks. I think it is completely normal not to have felt anything at this point. Speak to your midwife about your worries though, I am sure she can reassure you too.

lazylula · 16/04/2011 17:58

I haven't felt any of mine move until 20+ weeks, actually with ds2 I felt a few flutters before that. With ds1 and this bubs I have an anterior placenta, which cushions the kicks so often takes longer to feel the movements. Try not to worry.

chocadoodle · 16/04/2011 18:00

I didn't feel any movement with DS until 20 weeks.

I understand your anxiety though, sorry for you MMC Sad

jeckadeck · 16/04/2011 18:06

I didn't feel anything until 22/23 weeks. I don't think its necessarily anything to worry about.

FabbyChic · 16/04/2011 18:09

I didn't feel anything either until after 20 weeks.

It is far too soon, if you are having regular check ups and you have had your scans there really isn't anything to worry about, but as someone said you could always speak to your doctor or midwife who will be able to put your mind at rest.

SmethwickBelle · 16/04/2011 18:16

My placenta was anterior with DS1 which meant it was at the front between the baby and my stomach wall, consequently I felt very little until he was massive enough to push around the edges! Yours may be too - at the 20 weeks scan they'll be able to tell if that's a factor.

SeymoreBunnies · 16/04/2011 18:16

Maybe your placenta is anterior this time?

onceamai · 16/04/2011 18:24

Go and have a scan in the EPU - don't worry yourself silly over what may be nothing. I think everything is a bit streched third time round and not as sensitive. Had a bad time too so don't suffer in silence - go and find out and be reassured.

I didn't feel either of mine until 21 weeks. With DC2 the placenta was at the front at it totally messed up all the heartbeat checks as they took ages to find it each time.

diabolo · 16/04/2011 19:05

I was 20+ weeks too. Smile

NinkyNonker · 16/04/2011 19:08

I think I was at least 21 wks before I felt anything discernible. I didn't even have a bump at 16 wks really, it was hidden under cake abs of steel I think.

Try not to worry. Smile

NinkyNonker · 16/04/2011 19:10

And I second nipping to epu if it'll help, I did a couple of times in later pregnancy and they were great, took heartbeat etc.

babybythesea · 16/04/2011 19:28

I distinctly remember lying in bed on my tummy for ages because I was sure I should have felt it move and hadn't - thought I might squash it a bit by lying on the (non-existent) bump and force ito to kick hard enough for me to feel. I then spent several weeks trying to get my dh to discuss if the bubbles I could feel were the baby or indigestion!! He got the answer wrong every time, didn't take it seriously enough when I said I was worried because I should have felt it by now, said it was the baby when clearly it was wind and he was only saying it to make me feel better etc etc. I felt it at 22 weeks, no mistake.
S0 16 seems early to me.

FollowMe · 16/04/2011 19:42

16 weeks is still really early to feel it.
I'm 23 weeks with dc3 and only just starting to feel anything at all this week. I still only feel little bumps every 2 or 3 days, no big kicks yet.
I've got an anterior placenta. My mw says it's quite normal
hth

Thank you so much for reassuring me monkeyjamtart I know exactly what you mean about all the 'talk' of feeling movements making you worry more.

jezebelle · 16/04/2011 20:52

I could feel this baby, dc3, at 16 weeks, but only flutterings. It was big kicks from about 18 weeks, but he is very active more so than the other 2 ever were.

pointythings · 16/04/2011 20:52

19 weeks with DD1, 14 weeks with DD2 but she was an unusually long baby when born (newborn size did not fit on day 1).

shakey1500 · 16/04/2011 20:55

It was 19 weeks before I felt any movement (also after m/c). I remember because I'd asked my sister when the baby would start moving and she repiled she couldn't remember so I made a point of noting the date etc.

PhishFoodAddiction · 16/04/2011 21:26

I felt DD1 at around 16 weeks, big kicks from that stage onwards, but with DD2 the movements were much less noticeable throughout, so I felt the odd movement around 19 weeks but not much, more flutterings than kicks. At the 20 week scan I found this was because the placenta was at the front (anterior) and cushioning DD2's movements.

HTH and try not to worry.

TidyDancer · 16/04/2011 21:46

I think I was at 19 weeks with DD when I felt her. It was a good few weeks after that when I was certain it wasn't my imagination!

greenbananas · 16/04/2011 21:53

Does the midwife do that thing with the microphone so that you can listen to his heartbeat? Might be reassuring to hear your baby. If you're really concerned and losing sleep over this, then get it checked out, but there's probably no cause for worry at this stage.

I was completely convinced I felt DS move when I was about 14 weeks pregnant, but I realise now that it was probably just wind. He didn't really start kicking and wriggling until much, much later (can't remember exactly when, but I think it was after the 20 week scan).

iskra · 16/04/2011 22:01

I'm same as you OP! I am 18 weeks with DC2 & haven't felt kicks, worrying about it a bit. I felt kicks with DD at around this time & thought that I would feel them earlier this time... Heard the heartbeat at my 16 week appt but won't be seen again till my scan at 22w. Don't want to indulge my anxiety by ringing my midwife - I'd be reassured just to hear the heartbeat again - but don't want to wait another month!

RueLaChesty · 16/04/2011 22:05

I felt DD1 move between 16 and 17 weeks. DD2 at 22 weeks, no anterior placenta, she was just lazy. Made up for it in last 10 weeks though. :)

Still early but agree with other posters, if you are concerned go to EPU. You have every right to feel the way you do and i'm sure EPU had you in to reassure you that you worrying and stressin which is no good for anyone.

Sorry for your mmc and i hope you start enjoying your pregnancy soon.
