to want to move house without being without the internet for TWELVE DAYS

dh has just spent 20 minutes on the phone to BT listening to crappy reasons why it will take them 12 days to connect us after we have moved in. despite the fact that the house and current owner have a perfectly good connection. for some reason it has to vanish for 12 days. I work from home and can barely function without the internet. the lady at BT helpfully offered us a dongle but said it wouldn't get to us for longer than it'll take them to connect us Confused

has anyone managed to move without being cut off like this?

You can buy a dongle for about 20.00 and top it up like a phone. I know it is a pita,it happened to us too and they cancelled because of the snow [grr].

Go with Virgin they can install the day you move in. I moved in and Virgin installed the same day.

I had continuous BT in the house I am in too because there was already a BT line here, so as I moved in they plugged it in and it worked! Never been without whilst moving in the last five years and have moved twice.

Don't go with virgin they are a pain in the arse! Honestly, I have never known a company to be so much bloody trouble.

Admittedly I did have internet straight away, but only because they kept posting the hub to the house BEFORE we moved in.

I would go with a PAYG dongle.

O2 and a good company in customer service terms. Maybe they would?

Give them a moving in date of 12 days before you move in. :)

Its great actually - gives you time to unpack the boxes instead of being on the net. We were without a phone line; itnernet or tv for about 3 weeks - i read alot and realised it was how i used to live!

Don't go with BT, they don't deserve your custom.

Virgin did us immediately, even though the previous occupants had tarmaced over the wires and then cut the ends. Was sorted within a few hours.

Guys were cute too!

BT are absolute shit. I work from home as well and one of my associates had this problem with BT when she moved, it took them 3 weeks to sort out her internet, so that was 3 weeks income she lost!!

libelulle · 15/04/2011 17:35

Took them nearly a month to connect us - 12 days sounds pretty good relatively speaking. Though still crap, of course!

BT are mentalist! I arranged with the vendor of my new flat to take over her phone number etc, she spoke to them to sort it and I spoke to them and confirmed. All seemed well.

When I moved in a letter addressed to her was delivered, she said I could open it and it said Dear Ms X, thank you for signing up with BT... (she was leaving remember) and saying that the (already connected) line would be connected in 4 weeks time!

I gave up on BT at that point and got a new line with a competitor.
