Mum and dad are having a new carpet laid today in their lounge. The carpet fitters offered to take the old carpet away for a cost, so I offered to put it on Cheapcycle for them, and then Freecycle it if nobody wanted to buy it. (mum & dad don't have a computer). They thought it was a marvellous idea so I put the ad out, and had a buyer all lined up, she was supposed to collect on Monday.
Today the fitters arrived. I rang my dad to ask if, when they lifted the old carpet, they could salvage the underlay as well. Dad informed me that the fitters were cutting the old carpet into strips and were taking it away with them. I said "Can't you ask them to stop?" and he said "I can't talk now" and put the phone down. A few minutes later he rang me back and said that the fitters had just started cutting the carpet up and he said about wanting to keep it, they said they would take it away with them and he just said "oh all right then."
I was a bit
because I had spent a couple of hours taking photos, advertising the carpet, replying to people, organising the pick-up, and now I have to go and e-mail the lady who wanted it and tell her that it's all cancelled now. My mum had popped in for a coffee and said "you're not happy are you". Well no I'm not! Then she just kept saying "well it's your dad..." "oh well it doesn't really matter..." "not to worry, worse things happen...".
Apart from anything else I'm a bit worried that an agreement on Cheapcycle might be legally binding.
AIBU to feel really pissed off because my dad couldn't just tell the fitters to stop cutting the poxy carpet?
