YANBU. Some peoples feet are minging. Either sort them out or hide them away!

Cutiecat · 15/04/2011 05:22

Yanbu. Some of my friends feet are vile and yet they paint the gnarled old toes just to really set of the grey calloused skin. Yuck.

GotArt · 15/04/2011 05:31

ARGH! Yes they should be! lol.

My sister has the worst feet I've ever seen but she cuts her toenails SO incredibly short too. They're all crusty healed and just, oh god, gross. I told her she should invest in a PediEgg. lol I think a sander might me better though. Grin Her fingernails aren't any better.

NoelEdmondshair · 15/04/2011 06:26

Okay I'm asking this on behalf of a friend it's not for my sake, you understand.

Is it possible to have feet so cracked and yukky that one shouldn't inflict them on a poor beautician? Or have they seen just about anything and will not flinch (outwardly, at least)?

bonkers20 · 15/04/2011 06:44

Hmm I have horrid feet. I am a runner and am prone to hard skin. I also have very, very dry skin. I spend an awful lot of time (relative to the amount of free time I have considering I am a Mother of 2 with a job) dealing with my hands, face and body, but sadly I do neglect my feet. The nails are really short and jagged.
I don't like them. I certainly do not paint my nails to attract attention to them, but I do wear shoes that reveal them. To be honest getting them out in the fresh air is very good for them. I am self conscious and really only wear shoes which barely show the toe, though they are open at the heel and show cracked heels.

I'm going to look more of a freak in summer skirts or cropped trousers teamed either with shoes and socks or clumpy regular shoes.

I do occassionally treat them with the Scholl dry skin removed thingy and moisturise but really....they're back to being a state within a very short time.

Oh, I feel all sad about my feet now and more sad about people who think I'm skank.

DoodleAlley · 15/04/2011 06:55

Yabu if you don't like the way soneone's feet look then don't look! What next - making ugly people go out wearing balaclavas?!

Honestly!

bonkers20 · 15/04/2011 06:55

NoelEdmondshair As long as they are clean and not infected then I suppose it's OK. Personally, I'd never take my feet to a beautician (well, they come with me when I get my eyebrows done but I can't really leave them at the door can I?), but rather to a podiatrist to get them sorted out.
If I really felt that a beatician did the treatment I wanted for my feet then I would certainly tell them when I booked what sort of state they were in and check it was appropriate.

I remember having a massage once and I felt SO ashamed of my feet. I hadn't realised they would be doing them until it was too late. I did apologise and they sort of brushed it off (I am SURE they had seen a lot worse) but then I said they were ticklish so could they move on.

exhausted2011 · 15/04/2011 07:16

Feet generally aren't very attractive, as long as nails are cut and not growing all yellow and long like a witches!!
Doodlealley, people can't help being ugly, but a tiny bit of effort with feet would go a long way.

OP posts:
DoodleAlley · 15/04/2011 07:29

I just think it's really fickle, superficial and judgemental. And I do put work into my feet, though I am recovering from an operation on my foot.

You wouldn't say people should moisturise because they are wrinkled.

And it's far easier to ignore soneone's feet.

jeckadeck · 15/04/2011 07:32

Totally: have never understood why people with hairy toes, corns, yellow toenails etc want to get their feet out in the first place. If you've got nasty feet and don't want to spend money on a pedicure fair enough. But for crying out loud don't wear sandals or birkenstocks on the tube. Put it away.

Unpainted toenails make my stomach churn.

So people who struggle with dry skin or who choose not to paint their toenails shouldn't wear their comfy birkenstocks in case it revolts others? Nice.

jamaisjedors · 15/04/2011 08:54

chiropodist.

nomoreheels · 15/04/2011 09:28

A pedicure will not sort your feet out. You need a chiropodist. For around £35 they will take off dead skin in a way you'd never be able to achieve at home. They will sort out ingrown nails & advise how to treat corns, cracked heels etc.

If your toenails are infected you really need to sort them out with fungal treatment. They can be expensive (£20) so talk to your gp & maybe you can try & get something at scrip price.

I use a pumice stone 3 times a week on my feet to keep them in shape, & rub body oil into them at night. It doesn't take long, it just takes remembering.

Manky feet are not nice for you or for others. My DPs toenails are yellow, curled & weird & he gets athletes foot sometimes. It's a pain but they can be helped with some professional treatment & TLC.

TragicallyHip · 15/04/2011 09:32

I actually just hate feet in general!

Can't bear it if someones feet touch me, except Ds but he is only 21 months!

pozzled · 15/04/2011 09:33

Yes, and there should be style police on the corner of every high street, everyone who doesn't conform to a certain standard should be carted off and locked up until they make themselves beautiful.

Or alternatively, you could try looking away.

SkinittingFluffyBunnyBonnets · 15/04/2011 09:35

Neledmondshair....see the chiropodist...they''re specialists in remving cracked and dry skin..then you can get the fancy stuff done at the salon.

Punkatheart · 15/04/2011 09:37

I was eating breakfast, people.

I would push forward the idea of feet police. Crimes against beauty.

Motto: 'You have to toe the line, or you are out of step.'

muminthemiddle · 15/04/2011 09:39

YANBU but disagree with the poster who said unpainted nails are disgusting, as long as the feet are in good shape they do not need to be painted.

ConnorTraceptive · 15/04/2011 09:40

Not sure what the difference is between a chiropodist and a podiatrist but I always see the latter and it costs me £25 to have all my hard skin removed and then I keep them smooth with a foot scrub a couple of times a week and apply Vaseline everyday.

gorionine · 15/04/2011 09:41

Punket I like your motto very much .

Still think OP is BU though, I totally agree with DoodleAlley.

mitochondria · 15/04/2011 09:42

My husband has blue painted toenails at the moment. People were giving him funny looks at the beach cafe. Obviously only women are supposed to paint their toes, right?

Punkatheart · 15/04/2011 09:45

No - I like metrosexual men. Eyeliner, varnish - it's all cool.
