DublinDoll - that's because you're not meant to eat them - just chew gently.

bonkers & noeledmondshair

I started a thread about this last week!!

I am glad I am not the only one. bonkers I run too and I just find that if I am regularly doing over 8-9 miles in a sesh then my feet end up with calluses, blisters, etc.

tbh I am a bit worried about making my feet really 'smooth' in case the next long run tears them to shreds..... Confused

Ephiny · 15/04/2011 10:05

I've never had a pedicure (not entirely sure what one is) or moisturised my feet (had never occurred to me that anyone would do this!) or painted my toenails in my life, and I think my feet look fine. My nails are trimmed and clean, I don't have any fungal infections or dry skin. I don't see how they can look any worse than my hands, which people see every day Confused.

If someone has a phobia of or is revolted by normal feet, that's their problem not mine.

BlingLoving · 15/04/2011 10:09

And pedicures should be offered as part of the service when you get pregnant. I am mortified at my feet currently as I stopped looking after them at about week 16 Blush. Normally I do most of it myself - exfoliate in bath, home pedis etc - and then have the odd pedicure to get it done right. But have not had energy to do self pedicures or exfoliating and somehow, have only managed to get to a beautician for one proper pedicure.

I also highly recommend finding the local dodgy looking manicure shop for the best pedis. The flash beauticians don't really get in there and sort out the dry skin etc.

'Unpainted toenails make my stomach churn'
erm... what- even your gorgeous toddler's toes?

unpainted toenails are normal and natural -why would they turn your stomach? (painted are fine too, and I appreciate toenails should be cared for just as much as the rest of us)

LittleRedDragon, Thanks for that one, it really cheered me upGrin

jimper · 15/04/2011 10:16

I once kicked a lady who was giving me a pedicure in the face - it really tickled! Blush - I can never go back!

JaneS · 15/04/2011 10:17

Thanks gorionine - 'twas childish, but I thought it and had to say it!

echt · 15/04/2011 11:56

Could one of you ladies clear up this etiquette conundrum for me?

I intend to have a pedicure sometime soon and have never had one; do I take off the old nail polish first?

My hooves are not so bad.

IAmTheCookieMonster · 15/04/2011 12:10

they will take it off for you if you already have some on

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 15/04/2011 12:23

You don't need to get it done professionally or make your feet 'too smooth'. Soak your feet once a week, either in the bath or a bowl of hot water with nice bath stuff in it. After at least 25 minutes, use a foot file or pumice stone to get rid of dead skin. Dry really thoroughly, then apply plenty of cream - you can use cracked heel cream or ordinary moisturiser. Then trim your nails. If you run you need to look after your feet even more - cracked heels can lead to pain and infections that would leave you unable to run.

exhausted2011 · 15/04/2011 12:29

Sorry if I have offended anyone, fwiw my feet aren't that wonderful, I have had 4 operations for ingrown toenails.
All I am saying is you can make adifference with a tiny bit of effort, and I was joking about the pedicure, of course I wasn't suggesting everyone had to have a £50 deluxe. Like I said, a bit of moisturiser and neat tidy toenails. Don't have to be painted, for me.

i hate feet

i hate my feet and would never let anyone touch them, on pain of death

i have horrible feet, and they are staying that way, so tough cheese, no pun intended :)

bemybebe · 15/04/2011 12:41

Does this issue really concern you so much exhausted?? Did your mother never tell you not to judge people by appearance? Have nothing else to do? May I suggest some good books? Wink

ZacharyQuack · 15/04/2011 12:47

I get psorasis on my feet, so the heels and insoles can look pretty dry and cracked.

I happily wear sandals and birkenstocks all summer. If you don't like it, focus on my ankles instead, they're quite nice.

Does this foot beauty standard apply to men as well?

exhausted2011 · 15/04/2011 12:52

It was meant to be a bit light hearted, of course it doesn't bother me that much.
And how exactly am I judging people? I just don't think it looks that nice

bemybebe · 15/04/2011 12:53

I actually have very beautiful feet as my dh and friends tell me. Does it mean that OP should stop wearing open shoes because hers "aren't that wonderful" pair will probably look rather sad?

bemybebe · 15/04/2011 12:54

My comments are also "light hearted" btw.

exhausted2011 · 15/04/2011 13:02

Yeah, you winked! Maybe I should have done that in the first place!

Smile
bemybebe · 15/04/2011 13:16

btw, your "judging" comes from the idea that everyone with sad looking feel should have time to apply moisturizer to make it easy on your eyes...

i remember very well how in an interview one famous fashion designer (a female) to a question 'does such a high position in the fashion world puts extra pressure on you to look perfect' answered 'it probably does but i have better things to do'. or something to this effect. she has kids and she does not look perfect at all, but i think she is great.

bemybebe · 15/04/2011 13:16

not 'feel', 'feet' of course

Dozer · 15/04/2011 13:36

Yabu.

Ped-egg is v good for home pedicures.

Anyone tried the fish pedicure where the fish nibble away the dry skin?!

CURLYMAMMA · 15/04/2011 13:45

Oh no, this is what I think people think when they see my feet Blush they sure is ugly

bemybebe · 15/04/2011 14:08

i think one would struggle to get a really really good pedicure in the UK (sorry ladies). i have never tried fish pedicure, so cannot judge. best pedicures i had were the ones where the beautician takes time and care to take all the hard skin where you struggle to reach yourself and carefully and skillfully cuts all the dead skin around cuticles and then massages the toes for some time to let the oils to sink in. i never apply any polish as my nails go yellow, but i do gently buff them once a week (gently is the word!!), so they normally stay nice and pink.
