"I was feeling down earlier so I dipped my Muslim friend in bleach,

I thought I'd try to lighten Mahmood..."

I think I might hit the delete button. Jury please!

I think it's funny...a clever play on words, nothing more and nothing less.

The sort of 'humour' I get offended by are 'jokes' about tragedies such as the Japanese earthquake and that sort of thing because it's sick.

Really I think far too many people are actively looking for things to become offended by...and usually on behalf of others who for all they know, might find it funny.

WassaAxolotlEgg · 13/04/2011 11:29

It's a good play on words- but it's a play on words about dipping someone on bleach>

It's like the repulsive dead baby jokes on the internet.

miniwedge · 13/04/2011 11:33

It's not a good play on words, many many muslims are white. The "joke" makes the assumption that all muslims are dark skinned.

It's based on ignorance.

WassaAxolotlEgg · 13/04/2011 11:34

Good point.

KatieWatie · 13/04/2011 11:41

It's more religionist than racist, isn't it?
But yeah it's still all kinds of wrong...

goodbyemrschips · 13/04/2011 11:41

Do you not think Muslims make bad or offensive jokes about white English people.?

Get over it.

WassaAxolotlEgg · 13/04/2011 11:42

Regardless of quality, it's a pretty disturbing joke. I wouldn't want to log into facebook and read that; so if any "friends" put jokes up like that, I'd be deleting/hiding them.

gorionine · 13/04/2011 11:44

"It's more religionist than racist, isn't it?" IMHO, in this instance it is both because you would not get a white person much lighter by dipping them in bleach surely?

"Do you not think Muslims make bad or offensive jokes about white English people.?" I have never heard any, do you know any that you could share?

worraliberty · 13/04/2011 11:45

Oh ffs get a sense of humour instead of pulling the joke apart and analysing it!!

WassaAxolotlEgg · 13/04/2011 11:46

goodbyemrschips

I'm sure some do- and if they make them on facebook, maybe some of their friends find the jokes offensive, and mull over whether to delete/hide the person that made the joke.

Everyone's the same, but different!

goodbyemrschips · 13/04/2011 11:48

Poeple make jokes about other races and countries all the time.
I am with worral................

diabolo · 13/04/2011 11:49

goodbyemrschips I don't.

goodbyemrschips · 13/04/2011 11:51

diabolo..............sorry I do not believe you have never made a quip about another country or religion or race in the whole of your life.

Sorry just don't believe you.

diabolo · 13/04/2011 11:53

goodbyemrschips you can believe whatever you like or not, as the case may be.

Not interested in proving myself to you!

goodbyemrschips · 13/04/2011 11:55

Ok dia................just read your profile maybe thats why your ''not very popular''...[your words not mine]

because you have not got a sense of humour.?

purplerabbitofinle · 13/04/2011 11:55

I've been asked how it's racist. Anybody care to suggest a suitably cutting reply?

OP posts:
WassaAxolotlEgg · 13/04/2011 11:56

goodbyemrschips

How is it relevant what jokes other people make, anyway? We're talking about this joke.

Besides, ever heard that "two wrongs don't make a right"?

WassaAxolotlEgg · 13/04/2011 11:57

"if it's got nothing to do with race, how would bleach lighten his skin?"

EduStudent · 13/04/2011 11:58

I think 'Are you really that fucking stupid?' followed by deletion would be appropriate.

gorionine · 13/04/2011 11:58

goodbyemrschips, do you really equate telling racist jokes to being popular or did I get that one really wrong?Confused

diabolo · 13/04/2011 12:01

goodbyemrschips - sufficiently interested in me to ready my profile? How sad.

I'd much rather be unpopular than racist!

Mamazonhereggsclucking · 13/04/2011 12:04

the fact that you need that explaining is example of your ignorance. It is racist because to bleach his skin is to indicate he is non white, to bleach his skin is to infer that to be white is preferable. It is also racist in the wider terms of being abusive or offensive about a certain minority or group "muslims".
You should get yourself off of facebook and go spend some time anywhere but under the rock you reside, you may find yourself getting enlightened.

will that fit?

goodbyemrschips · 13/04/2011 12:09

No racist jokes are not at all funny, but they do exist and personally I would of just ignored it.

By bringing it to this forum just fuels the fire and almost makes it acceptable, you thought the joke was racist but choose to tell us anyway.

If you disagree with someones humour either tell them or ignore it, worse thing you can do is tell the same joke to someone else.

This joke has now been read by dozens of people some who will pass it on.

The best thing to do to stop jokes like this is not to pass it on.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 13/04/2011 12:13

I can see racists liking the bleach reference, but I don't think you'd have to be racist to appreciate the pun.

Removing the bleach thing:

My Muslim friend is miserable about being so fat. I've suggested he goes on a diet. Anything to lighten Mahmood

Would that be racist?

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 13/04/2011 12:15

I didn't get the inference that white is preferable tbh.
