you are not a sausage - you are a piece of polystyrene with an odd taste and you fooled me into thinking it would be OK when the kids had proper porkinson bangers that I should make myself a couple of Quorn sausages to substitute under my onion gravy

I hate you Quorn

YANBU.It's horrid stuff.It doesn't matter what it's smothered in,it still tastes awful.

NorbertDentressangle · 12/04/2011 20:34

I like Quorn but can't stand their sausages -much prefer the Linda McCartney ones

Snorbs · 12/04/2011 22:18

I wasn't overly impressed by the Quorn mince. It's ok, but nothing special. I think it's a bit too soft. Sainsbury's own-brand frozen soya mince is nicer and noticeably cheaper too.

I also prefer the Linda McCartney sausages as does DD. And the Linda McCartney farmhouse pies are gorgeous.

Crystyclear · 12/04/2011 22:39

Quorn sausages are horrible! as are Quorn pieces now they are "chicken-style" (WTF?)

try the Cauldron sausages instead from the fridge section. they are very fab and nice. There's two types - Cumberland and Lincolnshire.

Linda McCartney farmhouse pies have also changed flavour and are smaller... don't understand at all.

ah well... tis better than 15 yrs ago when it was sosmix and beanfeast only. blurgh.

bessie26 · 12/04/2011 23:07

Blergh, quorn sausages are rubbish, cauldron ones are yummy Grin

spiderslegs · 12/04/2011 23:29

Sorry, I haven't read all of the thread as I was busy vomiting into the waste-basket.

Quorn (I can barely type it, it makes my body shudder) is WRONG, as are any Linda McCartney products.

The moral rights & wrongs of fussy eating vegetarianism are neither here nor there, but for goodness sakes people - get yourselves a palate. If you don't want to eat meat, eat vegetables, pulses, legumes, rice, pasta, herbs, fruits, dairy, fungi, I could go on.

Not some ersatz shit.

spiderslegs · 12/04/2011 23:30

PS Why do vegetarians eat eggs?? You don't eat caviar....

marmaladetwatkins · 13/04/2011 04:18

"The sausages aren't that bad. Having said that DS2 cried last time I said we were having them"

Grin I think that that would be the reaction of most sane people...

I hate their sausages. They never brown up. They look like anaemic tubes of rat crap. DH who is a vegetarian insists on buying them but then makes me coat them in stuff to make the taste of something. Sorry but real food shouldn't need that much help.

Don't mind the mince though.

HeadfirstForHalos · 13/04/2011 06:57

Linda McCartney sausages are better. The cauldron sausages (made from tofu) are okay too, as are morrisons own.

Quorn sausages are a bit "meh", I don't find them revolting and buy them if they're on offer.

HeadfirstForHalos · 13/04/2011 06:59

BTW has anyone tried the quorn fishless fingers and tuna style fishcake things? They have been a massive hit with my dc!

EmmaBemma · 13/04/2011 08:57

YANBU, Quorn in all its forms is rank as fuck. If I have to have a veggie sausage, Linda McCartney ones will do at a pinch; they taste unhealthy in sort of the same way sausages do.

Snorbs · 13/04/2011 09:11

I see your point, spiderslegs, and if it was just me who was a veggie then that's what I would do. As it is, though, I've got to cook for a more-or-less veggie DD, a (if given the chance) practically carnivorous DS, and me who doesn't mind either way.

About half of our meals are all vegetarian (and often with significant grumbling from DS) but for the other half it can be a lot easier to simply cook some meat-substitute for DD rather than doing a completely separate meal for her.

borderslass · 13/04/2011 09:14

Depends on the sausage some of the flavoured ones are nice great on SW, quorn mince is quite nice as long as its not overcooked makes great chilli and bolognese.

fastedwina · 13/04/2011 09:19

Nothing wrong with my quorn chilli, I'll have you know!

kerstina · 13/04/2011 09:19

Last night I started by frying the sausages for a couple of mins so they were nicely coated in oil then grilled them for about 6mins and they did brown up and were much tastier. Only did it as I was using all the hobs and DP wanted to heat some soup.
My DS is not a veggie but has decided himself he does not like pork .He will only eat quorn and LM sausages.

sayithowitis · 13/04/2011 09:20

Several years ago DH was advised to substitute Quorn for meat by the consultant he was seeing for his high cholesterol.Apparently it does not contain any. He is the sort of person who doesn't consider a meal to be a meal unless it has meat of some sort, so I was dubious about how he would react. I found that as long as it was accompanied by a strongly flavoured sauce, such as chilli or curry, it was fine and more importantly, so did he. His cholesterol is now at a completely healthy level, without the need for medication.
We still occasionally have a quorn meal and there are never any complaints either from DH or our two DCs.

Never had any allergic reactions to it either!

Megatron · 13/04/2011 09:23

Quorn has a kind of metallic/plasticky mixture taste to me. Gross.

ShirleyKnot · 13/04/2011 09:32

I despise quorn in all of it's Devil's Disguises.

I wish I liked it though because I do SW and I keep forgetting that it is actual evil and buying it and cooking it and throwing it straight in the bin.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 13/04/2011 09:34

I see your gross Quorn sausages and raise you the utter filth that is Vegetarian Bacon..... wtf is that stuff?

Oh also when I was veggie for years I used to enjoy a Linda McCartney sausage roll. :o

buttonmooncup · 13/04/2011 09:38

Oooh I love not bacon!!!!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 13/04/2011 09:39

It doesn't even look like Bacon!

borderslass · 13/04/2011 09:40

The bacon is the work of the devil its gross.

susansocks · 13/04/2011 09:47

i never used quorn when i was a vegetarian, used lots of tofu though, marinated and then fried until crispy. quite expensive for a family though.
i tried quorn chile con carne recently and fooled the family, initially, they are wary but all like it, though it does come out the other end rather quickly and cause stomach aches, if unable to get to the loo.
is is cheapest in iceland.
i like veggie sausages, but think i was the only one

susansocks · 13/04/2011 09:47

iceland the shop.
don't think i am encouraging visits to iceland the county

susansocks · 13/04/2011 09:48

i used to find linda mccartney pies came out the other end rathe quickly too, but they were nice, then they changed the recipe.
