Ahaaaaaaa. Thankyou. I think we have fairy cakes and call them cupcakes. No-one actually likes (even kids) that large amount of icing - usually as much as the cake itself!

spiderslegs · 12/04/2011 18:06

Semantics

twirlymum · 12/04/2011 18:12

A cupcake is usually bigger, which makes it better in my eyes Grin

Yet another anti-american. Why?

No, I am not American.

speakercorner · 12/04/2011 18:12

Most parties I go to do have carrot and cucumber and baby toms etc on the table as well as sandwiches, sausages and cakes. I would say the majority of kids eat the veg - mine like it. Crappy food is necessarily a treat for a lot of kids. And having some sort of healthy food means they don't feel sick. Which is good, surely.

Insomnia11 · 12/04/2011 18:12

I always hope all the sausage rolls disappear as they will surely all disappear into my mouth if not. :)

noddyholder · 12/04/2011 18:31

Even if you give them muesli sandwiches and gluten free cake they run around like headless chickens and squealing pigs. Let them eat crap for one day Healthy parties are cringey and try hard. It is meant to be fun and different

Blu · 12/04/2011 18:41

I am not anti-American, just anti the replacement of fairy cakes and buns with 'cupcakes' or renaming them as cupcakes.

Have you no respect for tradition?

(you clearly have no sense of humour!)

Mrswhiskerson · 12/04/2011 18:41

What happened to the days of sandwiches sausage rolls , jelly and ice cream??

Nagoo · 12/04/2011 18:49

mine found out about the existence of nutella on pancake day. I was surprised, but he still eats cheese an' 'am Grin

the world didn't end.

Nagoo · 12/04/2011 18:52

Kids party rules is at least 4 different kinds of "crisp". Two of which are orange in colour.

YouaretooniceNOT · 12/04/2011 18:55

worraliberty are they Greggs sausage rolls? Shock horror lol

Seona1973 · 12/04/2011 18:56

my kids wouldnt eat tomatoes, carrots or cucumber but I do normally do a fruit plate with grapes and strawberries which tends to get demolished.

YouaretooniceNOT · 12/04/2011 18:56

party food nazis lol

oh gosh - people are so Shock about the most peculiar things - unless medically unadvisable to eat gorgeous junk food, then give the kids a break, jeeez

LifeInTheSlowLane · 12/04/2011 18:59

At our parties we MUST have iced gems and party ring biscuits Smile

stinkypinky · 12/04/2011 19:11

I help my 4yo choose a balanced meal (if it is stuff she likes) with a moderate amount of treat bits - last weekend the girl next to her was allowed to choose what she wanted, puked, and was allowed to start over.

colditz · 12/04/2011 19:15

Bwaaaahahahaha

At ds1's 5th birthday party, Ds2 (about to turn 2 years old) disappeared.

He was found tucked in between a sanitary bin and a loo in the lady's toilets, with a whole plate of iced cupcakes (each with the icing carefully bitten off) and a shirt pocket full of mini sausages.

He was reeling with sugar overload and could barely walk. he was sat down and firmly gien a drink of water and told "No more cakes now"

But every time we left the house for about 3 weeks after that, he lifted his curly cherubic little head up and exclaimed hopefully - "Cake Parpy? More cake Parpy?"

SkinittingFluffyBunnyBonnets · 12/04/2011 19:17

oh Mike I agree! It IS wicked treating it like "tea" ...alll the po-faced ummies saying "No darling....eat 2 sandwiches and THEN a cake!"

In my day it was eat what you want!

colditz · 12/04/2011 19:19

I make mine eat some sandwiches before cake, because they will eat the sAME AMOUNT OF CAKE REGARDLESS AND IF THEY EAT ENOUGH AT THE PARTY, i DON'T HAVE TO GIVE THEM ANY DINNER

MrsKwazii · 12/04/2011 19:20

compo unpeeled grapes? What an outrage Shock Grin

Guadalupe · 12/04/2011 19:21

I had a boy for tea once who wanted his sausages peeled.

Dilligaf81 · 12/04/2011 19:26

I let DS (5) choose what he wants for his party food.
First he wanted me to cook a 3 course meal (salad, meaty macaroni cheese and cheesecake) for 30 kids when I said it was a buffet he chose:

Jam sandwiches
Choc spread sandwiches
Party rings
sausages
chicken nuggets
pizza
sausage rolls
crisps
homemade jelly cups and homemade biscuits
melon, cucumber, cherry toms and cheese cubes.

He's also having a bouncy castle so I will take a few buckets. Smile

MikeRotch · 12/04/2011 19:27

peeleed sausages?!

OP posts:
ashamedandconfused · 12/04/2011 19:29

I dont get it - adults dont go to someones house for dinner expecting junk and no veg, or go to a BBQ and ask for your pudding first. at a BBQ you might pig out, eat more meat and bread than usual, but you eat salads too

Kids SHOULD eat some fruit and veg at a party , the party is usually a lunch/tea MEAL, and should offer basic nutrition as well as extra treats

People lose sight of the fact that food isn't just a fuel, it is to be enjoyed and it is also sociable-anyone who is denying it for parties is setting up their DC for an unhealthy attitude to food inlater life.
