I know that they cost more, but surely it is worth the extra to know the bird has had a better standard of living.

LaWeasal: why are you in such dire straits that your family is starving? What has happened? Can mumsnet help you in some way? I am shocked that you are literally losing weight through poverty.

buttonmooncup · 08/04/2011 22:14

Well I take it the prize goes to Jareth for being the one person on here who gives a shit about chickens and people.

LaWeasel · 08/04/2011 22:14

buttonmoon - we are eating lentils et al on non meat days.

I actually hate pulses. They make me want to vomit.

But yes I am eating them, because we have to.

youcangetpregnantstandingup · 08/04/2011 22:15

Thanks chocolate, from you I take that 'fuck off' as a compliment!

Why is Jareth the only person to care about chickens and people? Do we have to choose?!

thefirstMrsDeVere · 08/04/2011 22:17

My dad tried to give me oxtail soup. He thought soup would be ok cos its not meat is it?

Bless him.

chocolatecoveredlissielou · 08/04/2011 22:17

No, I don't accept that going vegan or vegetarian is a financial question, chocolate, I know from my own experience that it isn't.

I didnt say it was, Im saying that its a question of health. the last time I had a vegetarian diet i ended up in hospital weighing 3st. I have incredibly weak bones and various deficiencies (read my posts) you are saying "change your diet!" with the same gay abandon you might suggest someone change their hair colour. it is a dangerous assumption to make.

scottishmummy · 08/04/2011 22:17

some animals are nice than some humans - now that is schmaltzy disney. bring a tear to glass eye that would

youcangetpregnantstandingup · 08/04/2011 22:17

Second what zukiecat says - a lot of those 'widdle animals' are a hell of a lot nicer than humans.

Not sure who decided there has to be a choice between chickens and people. There doesn't.

LaWeasel · 08/04/2011 22:17

bibbity - MN did! I had a great thread and got loads of tips a few weeks ago. (funnily enough no one on there suggested we try suddenly switching to a vegan diet)

It is a cummulation of a lot of things. Next month will be much, much better.

And food is being shifted up all the priority lists to make sure we can turn this around.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 08/04/2011 22:17

Yes you DO chickens you have five minutes starting........NOW!

Thingumy · 08/04/2011 22:18

Thanks chocolate, from you I take that 'fuck off' as a compliment!

it wasnt meant as one. how dare you suggest that I am selfish because I put my family first, you self-righteous, sanctimonious fool.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 08/04/2011 22:19

Shit! Ok, erm Well, I like chickens, but I like humans. But which do I like best? There's only one way to find out....FIGHT!

MarianneM · 08/04/2011 22:19

scottishmummy · 08/04/2011 22:19

maybe a few on here would take the bullet for henny penny?them instead of a brave better than some people hen

JarethTheGoblinKing · 08/04/2011 22:20

"Good for you Jareth lets hope that everyone on here who is talking down to people who doesn't buy free range eggs does the same."

Misread that for a second.. I hope that because I buy free range (don't buy into organic Hmm)eggs, and meat produce where possible that people don't think I look down on them.

I do agree that you should TRY to buy meat/eggs/milk that doesn't come from animals that have been shoved into a cage for their entire existence, but I also accept that plenty of people can't afford to do this. You could choose not to eat meat or eggs, but a good quality vegan diet on a very low income is virtually impossible.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 08/04/2011 22:21

fark, this is moving far too quickly :)

Look people. Existing, just existing, causes damage to someone/some creature/the planet. It isn't possible to live without impacting somewhere. We makes our choices, we takes our consequences. Now stop bloody fighting or I'll set ASBO Chicken on you and she is a right bitch
