Three times this week DS has come home with dog shit on his shoes. I've had enough of steam-cleaning my floors and I've had enough of having to scrape dog turd off shoes. I am VERY weak-stomached and it makes me heave.

I just happened to be at my dining room window when I saw a lady with a great big bear of a dog, who looked like he was stooping for a crap. He stood up and they started to walk off and lo and behold, big steaming pile of shit on footpath. The red mist descended so I opened my front door. "Excuse me, about the dog muck you've just left outside my house. I take it you won't be picking it up?" I call out. "I've forgotten my bag, sorry" she says and starts to walk off. "Wait, I'll get one for you!" I reply and off I go into the house and fetch her a carrier bag from under my sink. TBF she did pick up the shit but she was NOT happy about it. I smiled nicely and thanked her.

WIBU? I'm just SICK of dodging dog shit every day :(

It makes my blood boil that people don't bother to clean up after their dogs and restricts where I will take my LO's out and about as I don't want them falling in it Angry

If you do see someone not bothering and know where they live report them to the dog warden and they will get a lovely big fine which might teach them the error of their ways......

Absolutely Brilliant!!!

Well done! I am a dog owner, I always pick up and I hate treading in it too!

I borrowed DH's jacket when walking the dog recently. He had a couple of bags in the pocket he hadn't used. What I didn't realise was that he "fiddles" with them in his pocket, and had managed to "fiddle" bloody great holes in them!
Dog had the shortest walk in history that day, as I shot home to handwash with bleach!!!!

YouaretooniceNOT · 07/04/2011 18:34

Gross

My neighbour let her Alsation dog do its' business on my front lawn. The neighbour/owner of said dog denied it was her dog of course until i caught it in the act. She cleaned it up and so far no more mess. I have had to clean dog mess from my sons' shoes more than thrice because of that dog. It bit me once too!

Now the nutty dog owner is blasting music in the garden.

Grrrr

Rant over.

gkys · 07/04/2011 18:36

fantastoc OP i would have paid to have seen that, dog turd maths excellent Grin YADNBU! irresponsible dog owners should be fined.

PinkFondantFancy · 07/04/2011 18:39

Fantastic - good for you!!! Good for everyone else who brings enough spare bags to give spares out to other people too. I fail to see how you can take your dog for a walk and 'forget' to bring bags - it's pretty straightforward, pick up lead, pick up ball, pick up bags..... In fact, tie the bags to the lead, job done.

slowshow · 07/04/2011 18:42

Brilliant!

The local hoodies around here, with obligatory Staffie type dog on no lead, always let their dogs shit on the playing field next to my house. Have never had the guts to call them out on it...

jennieflower · 07/04/2011 18:42

I'm a dog owner that always picks it up but I always find myself doing it in a really exaggerated way just in case anyone is watching. Whenever one of mine squat I can feel hundreds of eyes watching me so I honestly don't know how the dirty buggers that don't pick it up don't feel ashamed.

Flisspaps · 07/04/2011 18:43

cheekyprincess The fine they'd get if I followed through tends to make them behave in future I do hope you DON'T follow through, it's bad enough having to sidestep dog shit Wink

OP - well done

MegBusset · 07/04/2011 19:00

We have to walk to school through Crap Alley too, it makes me furious. i think there should be a law that anyone who doesn't pick up their dog's shit gets their face rubbed in it.

hephaestus · 07/04/2011 19:05

This, totally. I always whip out a bag at the first hint of a poo but apparently that's just not quick enough, I'm paranoid sure that people are still tutting, god forbid that I allow the poo to touch the floor before I scoop it. Hmm

Also, having a bitch I have been yelled at more than once for supposedly not picking up - she was squatting for a wee!

OP, YANBU, and well done for confronting.

SnoozleDoozle, your comment about putting dogs to sleep was vile and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Runningjustasfastasican · 07/04/2011 19:33

YANBU - but how can a dog owner forget? We have spare bags stuffed everywhere! I'd be mortified if my dog did a poo and I put my hand in my pocket and no bag! I'd have knocked on someone's door to ask for one!

emptyshell · 07/04/2011 19:37

That's funny cos I offered the woman in the park who took her kid into the bushes to have a poo my scoop and dog shite bags the other day - she just tutted and didn't accept the offer.

By the way - when pooing in the bushes for privacy - make sure there's not a public footpath running behind said bushes.

GrimmaTheNome · 07/04/2011 19:42

ew gross - human poo is likely to have more human diseases in than dog poo (though hopefully not worms)

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 07/04/2011 19:48

When I used to borrow my sil's dog I may or may not have been known to slide folded kitchen roll under doggies launch pad as an ahem neater landing pad Blush

fastedwina · 07/04/2011 20:18

don't have a dog but always scooped up my kids poo when caught short outside - yuk to just leave it there.

FATFATFATTY · 07/04/2011 20:55

It's not just poo, why when you go for a nice walk in the city or popular country walks does it stink of dog pee?
Do not see why it is ok for dogs to pee where they like but not people, imagine the fuss if joggers just relieved themselves where ever they liked.
My family had dogs when we were young and they were taught to go on command before going for a walk.
Very simple when young give the same command every time they "perform" and very soon they "perform" when given the command.

LoveLeonardCohen · 07/04/2011 20:57

YANBU.....you are brave, I wish I could be so brave...but excellent, well done you. I cannot stand dog turds, disgusting

LittleMissFluffBrain · 07/04/2011 21:01

YADNBU. Good on you, I'm absolutely sick of dodging dog shit round here, it's a nightmare walking to school some mornings! Angry I seem to spend the entire walk saying 'mind that poo!' Grrrr.
If I caught someone red handed like you do letting their dog dump in front of my house I'd more than likely have done exactly the same.

MavisEnderby · 07/04/2011 21:03

OP it is one of my bugbears.

I am usually fairly mild mannered, but I vividly remember a couple of years ago I espied a woman letting her dog crap outside our front gate and walk off.I was pretty stressed at the time(dp with terminal illness, disabled dd and ds had trodden in some dogshite the day before and I had spent a good while cleaning it off his shoes,it seemed like a metaphor for my life at the time).

The red mist definitely descended.I shot out of the front door, chased her down the street and yelled in her face "Will you pick up that pile of S**T from my front pavement,or shall I let my toddler come and crap all over your house??".She looked somewhat Shock. Not my finest hour but I was sooooo annoyed!
