I'm not sure I am allowed to do this but I just ordered one of this guy's books- An Awesome Book of Thanks

and i think it might be one of the sweetest most lovely kids' book i have yet to lay my hands on.

Just such a sweet story- the guy had never written a book before and self published and now it is on sale everywhere apparently- not sure if it is in the UK yet but anyway I love it.

bruffin · 06/04/2011 07:02

you have to pay to advertise on here!

BsshBossh · 06/04/2011 09:01

A very delightful book that I now want to buy. But why put it in AIBU and not in Children's Books?

missslc · 06/04/2011 12:19

Okay I will put it in childrens books- it is not my book. Just so delighted i wanted to share it. And if you can read it online for free how can you advertise something for free...come on there are threads on here people saying they are in love with cleaning products.
Who is bruffin.....the watchman mumsnet ombudsmen;))

hmm, I was ok with it till it rhymed car with regular Hmm

TeeBee · 06/04/2011 13:04

I love them bothy. Very uplifting.

psiloveyou · 06/04/2011 13:12

Just read it to my 3 year old. She loved it. I will be buying thanks.

pinkthechaffinch · 06/04/2011 13:16

no need for insults just because I don't share your opinion of your book Smile

melonian · 06/04/2011 13:23

Thought they were both bobbins, personally. There was definitely an apostrophe in the wrong place in are'nt. Also is "there didn't use to be cars" grammatically correct as it doesn't seem right, perhaps a passing pedant could advise? I like stories, personally, not sanctimonious boring nonsense.

pinkthechaffinch · 06/04/2011 13:27

there used not to be cars?

there were no cars then?

then there were no cars?

there weren't any cars then?

cars didn't exist then?

cars hadn't been invented then?

I don't know either but I suspect I'm putting more thought into it than the 'author'

tabulahrasa · 06/04/2011 13:36

there used to be no cars

missslc · 06/04/2011 16:14

I think it is deliberate...the 'use' bit.......being playful with the pedant in us all.

i just love that he has set up a charity that donates books to kids who may not otherwise have them. Even the hardest cynic has got to be touched by that.

But mainly it is all about the book- it is just so beautiful and whimsical and uplifting.

pinkchaffinch- I'm just teasing. You don't have to have good taste in books. It is not a life death thing.;)

Amazing? I like it, but it's not amazing.

missslc · 06/04/2011 16:18

backwardwater- which childrens' books have you found amazing- I'd love to discover some new ones as this is one of the most special I have come across so maybe I am missing out?

backwardpossom · 06/04/2011 16:21

Well, I would tell you, but since you're showing your ignorance by twatting about with usernames, I wont bother wasting my breath. Maybe someone else with more patience will help you out.

Viagrafalls · 06/04/2011 16:58

I loved it - what's wrong with twee anyway? Grin

grumpypants · 06/04/2011 17:05

Read the linked one - bleeeurgh. Regular cars are pretty amazing actually - quite glad someone dreamed of that. Why is he trying to make out kids don't have imaginations? Load of self help type twaddle.

That was a bit rude. Have you never misquoted a user name before? I called Moondog "Mooncup" one time and she just laughed.

I think the books are good, but could do with a bit of editing. The drawings are sweet, the rhymes sometimes a bit clunky (car- regular) and I though it was a bit too long. My DS looked over my shoulder and laughed at the great pictures, so I think that they would be popular.

If you like poetry with great pics, then you can't go wrong with Lindsay Donaldson (of the Gruffallo). Snail and the Whale is great.

The Puffin Book of First Poetry is FAB, and highly recommended.

NameChange1234 · 06/04/2011 17:08

didn't like it.

PaisleyLeaf · 06/04/2011 17:11

Do you think that "are'nt" is just playfulness for pedants too?

MmeLindt · 06/04/2011 17:13

Read the Thank You one now. It is horribly twee. And I don't like the rhymes. The other one was ok.
