I'm not sure I am allowed to do this but I just ordered one of this guy's books- An Awesome Book of Thanks

and i think it might be one of the sweetest most lovely kids' book i have yet to lay my hands on.

Just such a sweet story- the guy had never written a book before and self published and now it is on sale everywhere apparently- not sure if it is in the UK yet but anyway I love it.

@MmeLindt - I think it's rude to muck about with posters' usernames on purpose to belittle them. Which is what the OP has done on more than one occasion on this thread...

MmeLindt · 06/04/2011 17:35

Backwardpossum
Oh sorry, missed that. Yes, you are right, OP was pretty obnoxious.

backwardpossom · 06/04/2011 17:35

:)

BoysAreLikeDogs · 06/04/2011 17:54

oh yes, OP that's very bratty

urgh, horrid behaviour

pinkthechaffinch · 06/04/2011 18:49

Thankyou backwardpossum Smile

TheArmadillo · 06/04/2011 19:35

overly long twee guff.

I read both of them thinking one might be better.

It wasn't.

That's 2 minutes of my life I won't get back.

pranma · 06/04/2011 20:07

sorry not struck at all
I loved:
No Matter What
Gobble Gobble Moo Tractor Book

ziggyf · 06/04/2011 20:17

Nope, not for me. Horses for courses though!

princessparty · 06/04/2011 20:28

American schmalzy crap

Jeeps · 06/04/2011 20:34

Sorry, just found it rather patronizing.

missslc · 06/04/2011 21:04

sorry backwardpossum- genuine error. Hey I don't need to know your fave books to help me out so don't you worry abut your lack of patience. Some people are just born impatient. Happily I am not one of them. There are worse vices.
-Just giving you the opportunity to share since you must have some books you love.I guess I was being polite back to you.But being honest...I don't care if you don't share. Modeling and all that .....but I know this is the forum for a different modus operendi often.

Yes Paisleyleaf I do actually. He is a poet and he is whimsical and you get permission to play about with the rules in my book when you create poetry and literature. Thanks MmeLindt- I know Donaldson and she is great but will check out the other. I just found this book refreshing somehow and not all formulaic like a lot of kids books are...understandably.There are some really mediocre ones out there.

one man's obnoxious is another man's playful...crush the chaffinch that one was not a mistake but if i was in the pub and you responded to my enthusiasm in the way you have here I would rib you.Come on people who crush others enthusiasms need to be teased a little out of your critique mode. It's good for you. Don't fight it.

if I was in the pub with you I would be backing away slowly you lunatic

melonian · 06/04/2011 21:35

Agree some of us were rather blunt in our dismissal of your book in the face of your enthusiasm, but now you are coming across as patronising and condescending. I do think the illustrations are different and interesting but I don't think the same degree of thought has gone into the language at all. Disagree that you can ignore the rules of grammar just because you write a book, how can children be expected to learn the rules? I find the message a bit cheesy as well, and I think it is aimed at adults rather than children.

Frizzbonce · 06/04/2011 21:43

There didn't used to be cars
There didn't used to be boats

It's not 'use' to.

If the text is sparse as it is for young children you've got to get it right. It's not 'awesome' either. The illustrations are by far the best part.

missslc · 06/04/2011 21:44

Don't worry pinkchaffinch- we won't ever be in the pub together. We are both safe from each other. I always avoid the rainersontheplains.

The beauty of being grown up is .....you know it is fine if you like it or don't like it or think I am a lunatic or think I am blah blah blah. It's pretty meaningless to be honest.

I have shared and you have your opinions, on the book and one every nuance of every post. You took the time to look though!
Gotcha

DOG's right- very bad for children learning to read.

Hated the illustrations, couldn't be arsed to read the words.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 06/04/2011 22:00

Quite liked the pictures but the text was sub-Seuss and very inaccurate and clunky. And the 'poems' on the website are shockingly bad - imho.

winnybella · 06/04/2011 22:06

Pictures are fun but writing is cringeworthy. Just horrible.

muminthecity · 06/04/2011 22:08

I thought it was shit. Sorry.

MmeLindt · 06/04/2011 22:08

Colonel
The "poems" are quite dreadful. Did you read the one How To Avoid Conflict.

I did the patronising, "Bleeeeessssss" thing.

scottishmummy · 06/04/2011 22:09

no dont like it,clumsily written
