to be slightly worried about them taking the money for Olympics tockets next month?

Am I the only one who breaks out in a cold sweat when thinking about the Olympics tickets next month... they can take the money out at any time between the 15th of May and end of June I believe. With no warning.

Now I know many people will say you shouldn't have applied if you can't afford them.... well we can afford them most of the month but no one wants potentially £200 coming out the day before pay day Shock We applied for 3 events in the hope of getting 1 but I'm now slightly hugely concerned we might actually get all 3 and they might suddenly take the money at the end of the month when there isn't enough to cover it.

AIBU in thinking they should at least onfirm what tickets you've got a few days before taking the money so you have a chance to change some money around before getting hit with massive OD charges?

I have applying for tickets on my to do list for this week, I hope I have missed the closing date.

It is going to be difficult to keep the maximum amount needed in my current account - do you not get any notice at all ?

Strictly · 04/04/2011 12:05

No, none at all! I can't understand how they can do that! I'm going to have to wantch my account like a hawk for 6 weeks making sure at no point does it dip below the maxmium amount they could charge if we win all 3 sets of tickets Hmm not good.

Maybe they won't do individual notifications but might give general information. You'd think it would make sense to work through the events in blocks - so athletics done first, then swimming or whatever and do they could say each day/week which tickets were due to be paid for.

I'd imagine that they wouldn't take all 3 sets in one go if your were sucessful.

That's how I'd organise it

Undertone · 04/04/2011 12:20

I'm worrying too. Why can't they notify people? The whole thing is a bloody shambles.

mollymole · 04/04/2011 13:05

you knew the situation when you applied - why not transfer enough money into your accounts to cover the cost of the tickets and then when it is applied for it is there

caughtinanet · 04/04/2011 13:17

You're right mollymole - we do know that but as the period over which the money can be taken is so long it might not be possible for everyone to keep the full amount in their current account for several weeks without even dipping under the total.

Stuff happens to even the most budget conscious of us.

knockinonyerdoor · 04/04/2011 13:19

I know what you mean. We want to go, so we applied for one lot of tickets, I wish we could have afforded to apply for two or three different events, so if we didn't get one we'd have another chance but Sad oh well...

Fingers crossed that we get the tickets we applied for.

Agree it's ridiculous though.

Ormirian · 04/04/2011 13:24

I agree. MIL wants to go to the opening ceremony. I don't really want to pay 300 for 2 tickets but she is so desperate to go I picked a ticket range between 20 and 155. I'll put any money on getting the 155 ones Hmm It's so expensive not to mention having to get there too!

culturemulcher · 04/04/2011 13:28

mollymole I'm sure most people are assuming that the chances of them getting the tickets they've applied for are super-slim, and they may not have enough money to just transfer money over to cover the cost of all the tickets. I've arranged for a temp. extended overdraft on my account for those momths - to cover the highly unlikely chance of being allocated every ticket we've applied for.

tyler80 · 04/04/2011 14:02

I expect a lot of people will stick a credit card down as their payment option so don't need to worry about the actual transaction date quite so much

caughtinanet · 04/04/2011 14:16

tyler80 - that isn't an option for a lot of people as you can only pay with a Visa card and my credit card is Mastercard.

tyler80 · 04/04/2011 17:08

I agree the Visa thing is ridiculous, because some people won't have a visa debit or visa credit card.

mollymole · 04/04/2011 20:14

the visa thing is because visa are sponsoring the games - they are hardly going to do this and then allow use of cards
