Her husband has put a 'change your name, woman' post on her facebook. I'm sure he think's it's funny but I think she's just moved to Stepford.

Also his favorite tv programme is '2 1/2 men' .

Wait 2 years and she'll be on the relationship threads.

I'm not close enough to her to openly criticise him, it all just makes me vv sad.

My DH often orders me to do things with "woman" attached to the end. It shows he's messing.

Write underneath it HisName, you change your name, beeatch

Summerbird73 · 03/04/2011 13:26

think you need to take a mooch back over to the feminist boards.

i put on FB that i wanted a new hairstyle - DH commented 'is that top or bottom' Grin which i thought was hilarious - one of my uptight friends was v concerned for me. FFS it was a JOKE

Abcinthia · 03/04/2011 13:28

My DP says things like this all the time. Doesn't bother me, I know he's joking and I joke along with him.

TotorosOcarina · 03/04/2011 13:29

fucking hell theres NO sense of humour left on MN at all.

darleneconnor · 03/04/2011 13:30

It is sexist!

Is there an equivalent derogetory term for a man? Nope.

There's a hell of a lot of cognitive dissonance on this thread.

OP posts:
Grabaspoon · 03/04/2011 13:32

How is perpetuating sexism or predjudice? [Genuinely interested]

I think dh posted something similar on my facebook after we got married and on occasion calls me woman. Funny that because I am a woman. And in our house you couldn't be further from stepford.
Seems like you are massively projecting here.

PureBloodMuggle · 03/04/2011 13:33

'woman' is a sexist term for a woman? Confused

But how is it sexist/derogatory? He didn't say a dergoative word and the word he did use has got an equivelant - woman is to man like boy is to girl.

Changechangechangeagain · 03/04/2011 13:35

She is a woman. Why is thos sexist?

If she wrote change your name man would it be sexist.

If he had written change your name as you are my bitch then maybe.

Why is woman a derogatory term? I am a woman and have no problem being called one.

Rhinestone · 03/04/2011 13:36

To be honest OP, I'm more offended by you grammar and lack of capital letters. I don't think you're for real as have just seen your other thread.

PureBloodMuggle · 03/04/2011 13:36

Also please point out the cognitive dissonance in this thread please.

chunkyjojo · 03/04/2011 13:36

Sweet mother of god!

darlene you need to start getting out more or at least crack open a window occasionally...

Ihavewelliesbuttheyrenotgreen · 03/04/2011 13:36

It really really does just sound like a joke OP. Also woman refer to each other as 'woman' and men refer to each as 'man'. Its what we all are essentially so don't really see what the problem is and comparing it to racism just doesn't make sense.

DuelingFanjo · 03/04/2011 13:37

DH really wants me to change my name, he'd do something like this but I did change it on facebook as it cost me nothing. changing my passport and all that is just too expensive so i'll just wait until I need to renew it in 8 years time and do it then.

Pancakeflipper · 03/04/2011 13:38

Quite right OP. He should have called her lady not woman.

mayorquimby · 03/04/2011 13:41

"'woman' is a sexist term for a woman?"

yup, and a derogatory one at that.

As for it being a sexist joke it's not, it may well be a joke based on sexism. It is satirising the previous social structure where by a man could order a woman to do something and his word was law. The humour comes from the fact that when used in this manner it highlights how ridiculous that system was and that anyone who still think such a mindset is acceptable is in fact a relic worthy of derision. Further to that it highlights how the power structures have shifted somewhat and in this scenario paints him as the one who holds less power in their relationship because he is portraying himself as the omnipotent man of yester-year yet his wife is clearly in control and doing what she likes. Hence despite his authoritative language he can't even get his own wife to change her name on FB. She's doing what she wants and he's left in a powerless muddle.

southmum · 03/04/2011 13:43

OP, go and sit yourself down and have a nice cup of sweet tea and maybe a nice bit of battenburg and you'll feel better.

mayorquimby · 03/04/2011 13:46

although having seen that 2 and 1/2 men is his favourite show I may have been too quick to credit him with a sense of humour.

PureBloodMuggle · 03/04/2011 13:53

2 and a 1/2 Men is rubbish.

Fact.

mayorquimby · 03/04/2011 13:55

exactly.it's true that all comedy is subjective with the caveat that any modern show that uses canned laughter is not comedy.
