From what I saw on the news this morning As from today the MAP will be available free in Wales to under 16s.

www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/8421411/Morning-after-pill-free-for-teenage-girls-in-Wales.html#

Is it right that the morning after pill will now be available to under sixteens over the pharmacy counter.

I have no problem with a child going to Health unit or a clinic for contraception under the scrutiny of a GP. Im not saying its right or wrong( every case is different and I would not judg) but at least its safer and the GP has access to the girls records.

And I do believe that if a teen is going to have sex its better to be protected, so I am not against young teens using the pill.

However If a young frightened under 16 yr old goes to a pharmacy she can surely say whatever her fear makes her say to get the required meds and it could very well be contraindicative to any other meds or medical problem she has.

Kids will say what they need to to get the morning after pill regardless of pharmacy access... I went to a doctor on behalf of a "friend" and pretended to need it at 16 then gave the pills to her boyfriend, who forcefed her them, because she had deliberately stopped her pill prescription to get knocked up and blackmail him into not breaking up with her... teens have dramatic love lives and I think it is better to have easier access to protection than put obstacles in their paths. The morning after pill is only effective for about 72 hours, so little time to make the decision to get it - and it will likely cost more than condoms, so teens won't bother trying to use it instead of.

But that is one of my points Flyingspagettimonster. IT is FREE now .

I agree access to contraception should be easy)ier) unless its medical, ie pill or coil and then at least its monitored. THATS my worry is that it wont be monitored.
