Made a major, major balls up when I took my dad and ds to see this. Thought it would be happy/funny movie i.e. UP!

Little did I know that the three of us would be blubbing behind our 3d glasses as mum had died a few months earlier. Traumatised was not the word, it was one of those god awful times when you keep hoping it will get better/happier......Can't believe I managed to pick the worst film to see EVER. It was meant to be a nice outing getting dad out of the house etc
UGH!

HansDatdoodishes · 01/04/2011 20:34

I didnt cry. Not even the hint of a tear. I think I must be broken.

westernwaydomesticgoddess · 01/04/2011 20:45

Both me & DH cried when we went to see up with the kids, and don't get me started on 'The Notebook' or 'Hatchi' - i bawled my eyes out!:(

ZenNudist · 01/04/2011 23:04

I was completely unprepared for how sad Up was. Sat down expecting a comic cartoon then the story of how the lonely old man used to be young, fell in love etc etc etc. It didn't help that I was pg at the time and it was far too close to real life (you know, until the house takes off! :) ).

I sobbed my heart out. I'll never watch it again. Mind you, I am a sissy, cry at lots of films. Grin

hmc · 01/04/2011 23:09

Love 'Up' - thanks for the reminder - might persuade dc that it is time for a rerun tomorrow with popcorn

hmc · 01/04/2011 23:10

Cathartic crying at sad tv / movies - totally healthy imo

bentneckwine1 · 01/04/2011 23:32

Have you seen 'The Christmas Shoes'? - about a boy who wants to buy his dying mother a pair of dancing shoes.

I flicked oved one afternoon and caught the last 2/3 of this and sobbed at the end...sure you can guess what happens!

Well I decided to buy the DVD because I had missed the beginning of the movie...lent it to my 15year old nephew to watch with his girlfriend.....cue DN being in floods of tears whilst the girlfriend looked on bemused!

MaisyMooCow · 01/04/2011 23:37

Haven't seen UP yet but have heard so much about it. TBH, I'm a bit scared of watching it now in case it scars my memory....I can't cope with sad movies!

hmc · 01/04/2011 23:38

You should watch it - moments of sadness but generally rather lovely and life affirming

flyingspaghettimonster · 01/04/2011 23:58

YANBU - my husband laughs because even after 5 times, it still breaks my heart a little :-(

dearprudence · 02/04/2011 00:08

I sobbed embarrassingly at Up the first time I saw it. The second time, I thought 'oh, I must have been hormonal last time'. The the music started...

The other film that made me cry like this was Dumbo and the 'Baby Mine' scene where Dumbo can't get to his mummy and then you see all the other baby animals snuggling up contendedly with their mummies. I watched it for the first time with DS when he was only about 3, and we were both just howling.

fastedwina · 02/04/2011 00:21

I'm getting teary reading this and just thinking about it. Saw The Railway Children recently and the 'Daddy, my daddy' bit had me going. When I was younger I was traumatised by The Little Match Girl - horrific!

CheerfulYank · 02/04/2011 00:36

I cried 5 times in Up.

I cried at the commercial for Hachi so I really can't bring myself to watch the movie yet.

The end of Homeward Bound when all the animals come running up! AAAHHHH!

petisa · 02/04/2011 01:05

Watch it maisy it's lovely.

Yanbu delia, ten minutes in and it had me in floods!

Think it's more of an adult animation than for kids, I would have been bored watching this at nine years old I think.

petisa · 02/04/2011 01:09

discobeaver, the feminist in me got annoyed that it was a boy and a man who do the journey of self-discovery and not a woman and/or a little girl. All too common in films, unfortunately.

CheerfulYank · 02/04/2011 02:21

Yes, however I did like Ellie as a little girl- bold, fearless, wearing scrubby overalls. :)

petisa · 02/04/2011 02:27

That's true CheerfulYank, I thought it was great when I realised she was a girl at the start when he first meets her.

CheerfulYank · 02/04/2011 02:29

OMG!!!!!!

I've just realized what Railway Children you've all been on about! :) I've heard about it a million times on here but didn't really think about it since I've never seen anything about it here (in the US). I just wikipedia'd it and realized I loved that book as a child! I'd forgotten all about it. I'll watch it as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Again OMG!

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 02/04/2011 08:03

I watched my sisters keeper whilst on a plane ..... Oh my goodness, my tissues were dripping! It was so sad .... People must have thought I was nuts!

EmmaBemma · 02/04/2011 08:32

come ON! Obviously YANBU, the one thing about Up that absolutely everyone who has seen it goes on about is the beginning montage bit that will 100% guaranteed squeeze tears out of the stoniest of hearts. Which is why I won't ever see it, as I am total sap, but that's by the by.

bintofbohemia · 02/04/2011 09:04

Fortunately when I saw My Sister's Keeper I was so outraged at the crappy ending that was nothing like the book that I managed not to bawl at all. (Which I was really surprised by, because I cry at pretty much anything.)

Deliainthemaking · 02/04/2011 09:55

Whats Hatchi! ??

discobeaver she miscarries ..I can recall her painting a nursery then ending up in hospital

smartyparts · 02/04/2011 09:58

I cried so much at Up, I was exhausted. My dcs now have the dvd and even if I hear the music, it sets me off.

Toy Story 3 I cried from the furnace scene all the way to the end.

breadandhoney · 02/04/2011 10:00

cookcleaner - DH and I watched marley and me on a plane and were both in floods (DH in a manly "i just have to scratch my cheek here" kind of way, me in a blubbering mess) Very embarrassing! Blush Just wanted to go home and give our wee dog a cuddle - I must point out this was before we had DD. How priorities change!

chicaguapa · 02/04/2011 10:15

No-one has mentioned the bit where he lets go of the house and watches it sail away through the clouds. That's the bit that always gets me. Sad

DS(6) cannot watch Wall-e. He sobs and sobs at the end of that because it's so happy. I think it's amazing how something that doesn't talk evokes such emotions in him. The animators are very very talented. Envy
