To think that Build a Bear accessories are a ridiculous waste of time and money

Why would any parent want to encourage their daughter to be into such a thing? The clothes are overpriced crap - £10 for a little top and skirt for a stuffed bear. Consumerism gone mad!

Buy premie baby clothes for them or newborns Wink Thats all our 2 wear.

peeriebear · 31/03/2011 18:32

The only thing I bought for DD1's was the little baseball boot type trainers, because they are very cool. :)

pigletmania · 31/03/2011 18:33

Yes they are I agree, my friend had one done for each of her children and they came to £70 for two bears and clothes Shock. What a waste of money.

turdass · 31/03/2011 18:35

The whole thing is a waste of money IMO but that's how they are going to make their money. I guess you might even pop back now and then and buy your bear a new outfit. Keeps the wheels of commerce turning!

DS1 got one for his 5th birthday. I was sceptical as he is so not a cuddly toy child. Anyway, it turned out that he was really interested in the actual manufacturing of the bear so the £35 we paid was for the experience. Poor bear now gets dragged around and eaten by DS2. DS1 says he hates it.

QuincyMincemeat · 31/03/2011 18:49

get the clothes from eBay. loads cheaper.

pinkmoomin · 31/03/2011 18:50

I don't think the actual building of the bear is a total waste of time and expense. It's all the accessories I just don't get - the shoes, the pants, the hats .... Why why why would anyone want to spend £10-£20 of their hard earned money on a shitty outfit for a bear?

I hate that shop - DD loves it though!
The clothes are especially hideous.

roomonthebroom · 31/03/2011 18:56

The accessories are expensive, but my DD was able to make one for her cousin, who she only sees 3 or 4 times a year because of the distance, and she was able to record her voice inside it. My niece loves the teddy and loves to hear her cousins voice, so not money wasted IMO.

My own DD got one as a special birthday gift and loved seeing it being made. If she wants to spend money birthday or Christmas money on the accessories it's up to her, she just has to realise that when the money is gone, it's gone. She plays with it all the time.

YANBU. DS loved it the one (and one only) time we went but such a dreadful rip off, so expensive. i cannot believe that place hasn't gone under in the economic climate. It's always dead at my local one.

This shop has parents by the short and curlies!!

fedupandfifty · 31/03/2011 19:17

Our local one is always full. It reminds me of taxidermy for kids and gives me the creeps - all that stuffing!! Shocking waste of money, but I can never resist it, even if DD can!

flyingspaghettimonster · 31/03/2011 19:39

total rip off, but I can't talk - my daughter has American Girl dolls, and the clothes and accessories for those are CRAZY prices... I get her things on ebay and second hand locally, thank goodness there is no store nearby because a simple outfit runs about $40...

Mandy2003 · 31/03/2011 19:52

LOL Taxidermy For Kids!! What a wonderful hobby! On holiday at Parkdean the have a stuffed toy machine where you buy the skin and watch as the operator fills it with polyester candy floss stuff. I told the operator that I reckoned he must get a buzz out of his job!!

DS returned from a school trip with a couple of teddies in hoodies advertising the place. He said they were Build a Bear and I though oh no here's an obsession starting. But they clearly weren't as I pointed out to him while searching the clothes on eBay, build a bear is a different size! He lost interest after that - PTL!

Anythingwithagiraffeonit · 31/03/2011 20:43

Has anyone ever seen that niptuck episode where the crazy lady 'stuffs' the agent and puts buttons in his eyes? (with her 'bear making kit')

Everytime I walk past build a bear this is all I can think of! It's ruined it for me! Haha...
