Ok, not a particularly serious thread. I don't expect them all to vanish but ffs who on earth invented these awful cars and thought they were a good idea? Where I live a couple up the road have one and it is so noisy you can hear it from what seems like miles away. They drive it even on ridiculously short distances and always look so chavvy proud when they are in it. I feel an inner seething whenever I see it because it honestly deafens me when they drive past. They don't look good, they don't sound good and according to a friend they are bloody uncomfortable and guzzle petrol like there is no tomorrow.

Will anyone own up to having one / liking them I wonder? Grin

they horrid, I am with you so you're not alone!!

Chavvy and just vile....why anyone wants one or thinks they look nice are delussional!

Mumofaflump · 31/03/2011 15:15

I agree, for the money you can get a louder/faster Skyline or Supra.

Cars are awesome. Cars that go stupidly fast are even more awesome.

And before anyone trots out the "why do you need a fast car in a country with speed-limits" line... that's what track days are for.

Disclaimer - I do however NEVER put DS in the track car. He goes everywhere in the Pug 206

valiumredhead · 31/03/2011 15:16

I have a SUBARU Forrester - not an Impreza! Grin

ninedragons · 31/03/2011 15:16

We used to live on a bend in a fairly rural road and every single week, almost without fail, would awake to a screech and an almighty bang and rush out to find one on its roof with a dazed driver inside.

If it wasn't an Impreza, it was a Mitsubishi Evo.

harassedinherpants · 31/03/2011 15:18

YABVU!!

My ds is 21.....and drives one.

It's a 4wd estate that uses for his work as a builder. He's a very sensible lad, settled down with his gf and they have an 18mth old dd. Hardly boy racer type.

It's very sensible car for what he needs it for actually. He wanted one of those or a volvo and this one came up for sale.

Oh and he didn't slip or slide anywhere in the snow!! I was very jealous....

Mumofaflump · 31/03/2011 15:26

Ninedragons - Are you in Dorset? Sounds like some of the roads round here!

OTheHugeManatee · 31/03/2011 15:31

I quite like Imprezas. Agree with Mumofaflump though, I'd much rather have a Skyline Grin

PatriciaHolm · 31/03/2011 15:35

We have one Grin It replaced an MX5 as our family car when I got pregnant, so it's the old version, 7 years old now.

However, it's not the top end one, so it's doesn't make the really loud noise. It's also down to how it's driven; it's not compulsory to overrev it and wake the neighbourhood. I can drive it quietly!

It's not in the least bit uncomfortable though Grin

Mumofaflump · 31/03/2011 15:35

OTheHugeManatee R32, 33 or 34? Personally I prefer the R33.

OTheHugeManatee · 31/03/2011 15:52

They had a pillar-box red R32 for sale in my local garage not long ago. Perfect condition. I did hanker a bit Grin

Mumofaflump · 31/03/2011 15:55

Oh nice! Went to a Max-Power meet recently and the National Skyline Owners club showed up. I don't mind admitting I got a leetle bit excited. I was 8 months pregnant and DF started to worry my waters were going to break!

OTheHugeManatee · 31/03/2011 17:52

purplepidjin · 31/03/2011 17:54

You think that's bad? you should hear my car... 1970 Beetle with a dodgy exhaust Grin

Not as bad as a top-fueller, but not far off lol

Hulababy · 31/03/2011 17:56

I don't like the look of the Impreza. Test drove one once. Didn't like it. Fortunately neither did DH.

I do like a fast car on occasions though. Excellent for acceleration if you need to overtake any time. DH's car is pretty fast - Golf R. And I do enjoy using it every so often. I love my little Fiat 500, but it isn't very fast, so nice to have the change sometimes.

plainwhitet · 31/03/2011 18:09

We have a Subaru Impreza. It is fantastic to drive. It is very comfortable inside. It does not guzzle petrol at all. It has a spacious boot. I love it! The problem is who is driving it; if it's me it is safe and fun and quick. PS our other car is a Fiat Doblo so I know of what I speak ...!!

wildfig · 31/03/2011 19:10

They're designed as rally cars - that's why they're like that. All the money goes on the engine and suspension, not on aircon and satnav. If you enjoy driving, they're amazing: I had an Impreza P1 on roadtest for a week and it was the closest I've ever felt to being on a magic carpet with the acceleration of a rocket. Brilliant, but a bit terrifying.

If you don't enjoy driving, it's like being tied to a racehorse with a wasp under the saddle.

xstitch · 31/03/2011 20:00

I can kind of see your point but its more the way people drive them on the open roads that's the problem rather than the car itself. There are some drivers who can't distinguish between roads and rally tracks. That style of driving isn't confined to Subaru Impreza's either. It is inconsiderate drivers that are the problem.

I was disturbed a few nights ago (I was at the back of the house) about 11pm by someone reving their engine very loudly for no obvious reason and playing their stereo so loud it sounded as if I was playing it loud.

There is a man near me who has given up gardening which he loves because he doesn't see the point any more because cars end up in his garden 2-3 times a week. His house itself has just been hit for the 4th time this year and he is now struggling to get home insurance as a result.

So YAB a bitU to want to ban the actual cars IMO its definitely certain drivers who are the problem.

theoldtrout01876 · 01/04/2011 00:13

I will own up to both owning and LOVING my Subaru imprezza :o

Best car Ive ever owned,my last car was a Subaru also.I dont intend to ever drive anything else but a Subaru until they pry my license out of my age gnarled hands Then I will make my kids drive me around in a Subaru. :o

I get great gas milage and its truly awesome in to snow. I got that little car over or through every snow bank I pointed it at this winter. It got me to work on days when the state government had told all non essential people to stay home.

Plus it moved like greased fckin lightning. :o

I love my Subaru Imprezza ( does that mean i can officially say Ive been called a chav? cant wait to tell people that, oooooh the excitement )

Ryoko · 01/04/2011 00:20

Nothing wrong with the things, it's those bloody eco cars like the Prius that need banning, makes a mockery of the green cross code, "stop, look and listen" then wonder why you just got hit by a silent car when crossing the road.

Seriously those things are a menace I feel sorry for the blind, if they don't make it law that those things have to emit a sound, how the hell will the blind manage to cross the roads?

Mrswhiskerson · 01/04/2011 00:59

Yabu I think they are great but I would rather have a mitsubishi evo ,
mumofaflump you sound just like me whe
it comes to cars , I get more excited than my dh when I see a nice one.

Kallista · 01/04/2011 01:00

YABU i can't drive (epilepsy :( ) but if i could i'd have a fast japanese or korean car ( or a Porsche or TVR in my dreams.) Did any of you ever go to burn ups with your mates, or spend evenings with your friends in random car parks with hard house on the speakers, doing handbrake turns then speeding to the next meet up.
We were probably chavs but we didn't do drugs - it was all about the cars. They were cheap but fast. It was dangerous - lots of near misses.
I have my sensible law abiding side, but yes i do also get a thrill from hearing or seeing a proper fast car.

Glitterandglue · 01/04/2011 08:22

YABU to think all Imprezas should be banned, but YANBU to think all Imprezas post 2007 should be banned. They look very wrong without the spoiler, but gorgeous with.

lottiejenkins · 01/04/2011 08:28

My lovely friend Megz would deffo agree with you.......... She gets woken up by one at all hours of the night when it roars past her house. Her FB status often says something along the lines of "Impreza drive you are going to dieeeeeeeee" Wink

Mumofaflump · 01/04/2011 09:32

Kallista and Mrswhiskerson

Grin Wink

May I suggest, if you are in the area, Matchams Raceway in Ringwood, Bournemouth on a Wednesday evening. Then a burn up to East Cliff down closed roads afterwards.

All police approved!

pingu2209 · 01/04/2011 09:46

But in the summer those massive spoilers make such good picnic tables!
