CENSUS...todays ENFORCER publicity. Are they being unreasonable?

GabbyLoggon · 28/03/2011 15:50

There is publicity all over todays papers telling us that CENSUS ENFORCERS
will be going to the homes of people who have not complied.

The tone they take has a daft Sweeney ring. Do the enforcers arrive tooled-up With vans waiting outside the house.

Seriously, it would have made more sense to have female enforcers
with a degree of charm; rather than macho men weilding a bit of temporary.
pocket money, power.

I did note a female "Jil" signed the publicity for the Census/ (The last one
of its kind. some say)

What the heck should we HAVE to fill it in anyway?

ForeverNamechanging · 28/03/2011 15:54

I lost our form so i will probably get a knock from them.

FlaminGreatGallah · 28/03/2011 15:57

Grin at tooled-up Census enforcers.

My mother would defy the patience of a saint even before the dementia set in. I do hope they call on her and come away gibbering.

knockinonyerdoor · 28/03/2011 15:58

Bloody hell. Angry

I'm a Census collector. They could have made us sound a bit LESS like the flippin' KGB, couldn't they?

We are going to knock on doors explaining that the Census office haven't received a form from that address and offering help to fill it in.

We have been told specifically NOT to have a strong-arm confrontational approach.

I am not looking forward to my (much needed) temp job.

GabbyLoggon · 28/03/2011 15:59

Indiana. I am not convinced we should have to fill it in. (the cost is enormous)

But I would not go into serious battle over it. Will beinteresting to see the numbers who refuse. It wont be enormous.

I think government is by nature a series of cock-ups. (The census wont change that.)

TheFantasticFixit · 28/03/2011 15:59

Indiana I am with you there. I don't believe that the government won't use our details for purposes other than what they state on the form and in publicity. I don't trust that they won't sell it in some form to companies.

I assume the 'enforcers' will be like the people who come round to your house if you don't complete the electoral roll form on time and make you to do it There and Then at the door? Generally they are female?

MeRightYouWrongMeBigYouSmall · 28/03/2011 16:00

I wanna know how to become an enforcer!

ForeverNamechanging · 28/03/2011 16:00

knockinonyerdoor will you have spare forms on your person? Perhaps tucked into your stab vest?
Or do i have to order a new form?

Grin
Chil1234 · 28/03/2011 16:01

My dear old mum (then almost retired) was a census worker in 2001. She had to visit people who hadn't completed their forms, see if there was a problem and offer to help. She was out there by herself in the evenings knocking on doors - quite enjoyed it. If anyone turned nasty she didn't pursue it but left it to some other bunch to deal with.

I think you're reading far too much into a single word Gabby...

FlaminGreatGallah · 28/03/2011 16:01

Don't worry knockinonyerdoor, I speak to my Mum for a half hour and end up gibbering. I am sure you will be charming and supportive to all your clients Smile Sorry you're having a bad press.

MeRightYouWrongMeBigYouSmall · 28/03/2011 16:03

love TheSecondComing's mentality....

DramaInPyjamas · 28/03/2011 16:04

Someone came to my door today to try and collect ours. Surely a bit early..?

knockinonyerdoor · 28/03/2011 16:04

Yes I'll have spare forms!

They didn't issue me a stab vest. Sad

I have a very stout and protective ID card to flourish though. Grin

MeRightYouWrongMeBigYouSmall · 28/03/2011 16:06

Drama....aha that was the opposition

Collecting forms to dispose of before you've even had a chance to post!

I hid in the kitchen and ignored anyway. Have only filled in half of it

KaraStarbuckThrace · 28/03/2011 16:10

I posted mine today!

miso · 28/03/2011 16:12

Mine only arrived today, so I'd be a bit Hmm if they were round to 'enforce' already.

MikeRotch · 28/03/2011 16:13

im pleased they are enforcing

and worried about Jil's lost l

Saltire · 28/03/2011 16:14

I'd like to see them get on here.

I've filled ours in, however, i do think people should have the choice - it's like the electoral role. I got threatend with court by hampshire council because I hadn't filled ours in. - if people don't want to go on it, for whatever reasons they shouldn't be forced into it.

knockinonyerdoor · 28/03/2011 16:14

Yes bit worried about the torch/rape alarm. Maybe some weirdo's find hi vis vests and an air of authority irresistably attractive.

GabbyLoggon · 28/03/2011 16:14

Knockon anydoor. Thanks for posting, Knock. The way your job has been publicised is a jokers dream. (The cartoonists could have a field day) But that is not your fault.

I had a geezer from the system trying to see me before census day. (I
did not play ball) Because he did not expalin himself well enough. He could have been a tabloid editor.

Let us know how it goes, Knock, when don the alarm, reinforced y-fronts etc.

You may have some funny experiences.

As my house was empty on 27th why should I have to fill it in?
