CENSUS...todays ENFORCER publicity. Are they being unreasonable?

GabbyLoggon · 28/03/2011 15:50

There is publicity all over todays papers telling us that CENSUS ENFORCERS
will be going to the homes of people who have not complied.

The tone they take has a daft Sweeney ring. Do the enforcers arrive tooled-up With vans waiting outside the house.

Seriously, it would have made more sense to have female enforcers
with a degree of charm; rather than macho men weilding a bit of temporary.
pocket money, power.

I did note a female "Jil" signed the publicity for the Census/ (The last one
of its kind. some say)

I've done mine, but I haven't posted it yet. I could go out and post it now, I suppose, but actually I dont see why I can't just post it tomorrow. I think the last post from my particular little villagy box has gone anyway.

Will this matter? Presumably if I post it tomorrow morning I'll be okay? Confused

JBellingham · 28/03/2011 16:28

TheSecondComing - If it was a snapshot of a certain day, why tell me to fill it in when I return from not being in the country on that day? Seems like a snapshot of the community on the day unless you were not there on that day and in that case, a snapshot of near that day will do.

So I am quite happy not to fucking whinge when the buses I never ride on dont run to a doctor's surgery that I don't use.

I hope you come to knock on my door so I can whinge endlessly at why I should pay taxes for people to collect 'non information'.

CaveMum · 28/03/2011 16:32

I filled in ours online yesterday, took me all of 10 minutes.

I really don't understand the fuss: your credit card company, Tesco Clubcard etc hold more information about you than you give for the census.

As family history research is a bit of a hobby of mine, I've found previous censuseseses (censi? Hmm) invaluable in tracing relatives. The information contained in the 2011 census will not/cannot be made public for about 100 years.

[thinks too many people have been sniffing the conspiracy theory lighter fluid]

5ofus · 28/03/2011 16:33

Why not online? Seemed a whole load easier to me and reduces cost of census as no-one will have to do data entry on it.

I'm not an Enforcer but I'm starting to wish I was Grin

I would go but no buses plan to go near there for 100 years!

knockinonyerdoor · 28/03/2011 16:59

SecondComing if you're getting nearly a tenner an hour I'm Angry, I'm getting seven quid! For that I'll cheerfully knock, smile, hand out forms and run away Grin

Lollybrolly · 28/03/2011 17:06

Already?

Jeeps!! Completed mine yesterday and not posted it today as I have been too ill to leave the house. Even if I had posted it today our nearest post box would have only just picked it up.

Are they really expecting all the census forms to beback already??

They obviously have more faith in te Royal sodding mail than I do!! 1st class on average takes 3 days these days so it will be Thursday at the earliest they get mine.

Love to see these enforcers - do you think they will threaten me with a cricket bat?

That is asuming that people can post it!!
Our post box is jam-packed with census forms, cannot get any more in it.

GabbyLoggon · 28/03/2011 17:16

They could have put their address on the back to save multi reminders about the window.

I expect to post tomorrow. with full ceremony and photo being taken

they wont start enforcing just yet.

A few stories will hit the press about incidents of what kind or another. But I am backing "knock" to survive the ordeal.

It doesn't sound right to be getting visits already to an average household. Not unless they were checking if forms had been sent to the property, or responding to a request for help. Census collectors have photo ID and have to show it.

caughtinanet · 28/03/2011 17:36

I saw an enforcer today, he was looking very menacing outside am empty block of flats and he was indeed tooled up - with a pen and clipboard no less

Watch out Gabby

Mymblesson · 28/03/2011 17:45

Hah. I was an 'enforcer' back in the 1991 Census. We had to deliver all the forms by hand in our 'patch' and then follow up and collect them. That was, erm, interesting.

HattiFattner · 28/03/2011 17:56

I'm an enforcer. Hear me roar. Grin

BUt Im only getting £8 an hour - we are in a relatively genteel area.

Seriously, Tesco clubcard has more intimate info about you than the census form. They even know the size of my arse Shock and how much wine i drink!

If you knew me, you would laugh at me enforcing anything - Im an overweight middle-aged woman. I shall be politely asking you to fill in your form, and if I can't persuade you, I shall be ticking a box and thats it...the real heavy mob come in after me and can fine you £1k, but thats not my problem.

ivykaty44 · 28/03/2011 17:57

So what happens when the house is empty when the enforcers call to demand the census is returned?

I mean if the person is abroad for a few months?

MissusF · 28/03/2011 17:58

Did mine early. havnt done Dfathers tho, who you have to tell the same thing 20 times before he takes in in. (he is 83)

he is just forgetful, not senile, and gets quite lonely, shall i leave it so he gets a visit?

Enforcer may be there a while Grin

Saltire, my DH is one of them guards.............................. he is not scary, or big Grin

HattiFattner · 28/03/2011 17:59

you have until 6th APril to get the forms back in the first tranch...then you will get a visit from a little old lady like me to remind you. I shall make a day of it on the day of the royal wedding and annoy all those watching the wedding by nagging y'all...Grin

HattiFattner · 28/03/2011 18:00

missus F, theres a number on the front of a form, and he can call forsomeone to help him fill in the form.

Ivy, if the house is obviously unoccupied, a nil return will be entered.

MissusF · 28/03/2011 18:02

Hatti, Thank you, I am going down in a minute to do it for him, he has rung 4 times today about it (i live 45 minutes away and work fulltime),

He wouldnt settle unless I go down.

ivykaty44 · 28/03/2011 18:04

well the house isn't empty of furniture and the lights are set to come on every evening on auto - as we don't want people knowing we are not there... So we have made it looked lived in and have neighbours using our drive.

madworld1 · 28/03/2011 18:59

I am not feeling too chuffed about census . DM passed away and twice we returned to sender. But no it keeps coming back and we still have to fill it in.
