I find it quite ironic how the police arrest and prosecute protested for smashing up windows on marches against massive companies not paying tax, but do they go in and arrest chairmen of these giant companies when they too are breaking the law?

No.

it seems the police are picking and choosing what law breakers they arrest....

stinks.

Hey, anyone ever noticed how many biscuits are named after revolutionaries? Garibaldis, for instance. And Bourbons. Did Bourbon every do anything revolutionarish.

We can't have Viscounts tho. Not on this thread. Dear me no.

Mamaz0n · 28/03/2011 14:43

will the gingerbread be means tested though? where will the cut off be? is it only for married couples or only those with children?

come on SOH we need the details before i can pick up my balaclava and bag of bricks

ShirleyKnot · 28/03/2011 14:44

oh and as an aside to Show (I see bloofer has already done one) I dreamed about you last week, we were fighting over David Mitchell. Like proper fisticuff death match stuff.

mayorquimby · 28/03/2011 14:44

No they're allowed to have an opinion and in fact their opinion when it comes to election time is of exactly the same value whether you are an oxbridge educated lawyer or a high-school drop out with no higher learning or job.

They can voice their opinions all they like as well, however in a debating forum an opinion which is not supported by well constructed arguments and facts is less likely to be respected than an informed opinion.

and as for
"does either mean i would have less right to complain?"

well in a way yes it does. If your argument is based on the fact that these companies are immoral for engaging in tax avoidance well then you would have less right to complain if you yourself were in receipt of any state benefits, tax exemptions or state backed pension schemes because you'd be doing exactly the same thing as them. If however you voluntarily pay over the odds when it comes to tax, receive no benefits or allowances and actively avoid tax-breaks to which you are entitled well then while I would still completely disagree with your arguments you would at least be in a position where by you yourself were free from any accusations of hypocrisy.

Mariez · 28/03/2011 14:44

BlooferLady · 28/03/2011 14:45

She's ignoring me

BlooferLady · 28/03/2011 14:45

Ooooo I am awful but you like me, right? Right?

ShowOfHands · 28/03/2011 14:46

I've crossed out Cameron on my Down With Cameron poster and painted on Kipling instead. I've fashioned the crossing out into a squashed french fancy. It's quite good acksherley.

A leftie married to a copper makes for some interesting dinner conversations. He's quite a leftie too even though he's a sell out a member of the constabulary. His colleagues love it when I go on work nights out with them and take my leftie liberal bleeding-heart opinions with me.

merrywidow · 28/03/2011 14:46

Didn't say anything about OP not having vote/opinion etc Shirley, I'm attempting to gauge if Op is actually living a lifestyle which OP apparently despises

Mariez · 28/03/2011 14:46

Alouiseg · 28/03/2011 14:47

It's not the job of the police to make judgement calls! Yab a twit vvu.

AbsDuCroissant · 28/03/2011 14:47

Op, are you drunk? Have you actually read any of the responses or questions?

BlooferLady · 28/03/2011 14:47

Tellmeabahtit show. More'n'once the poor chap (by nature rather shy) has blushed into his hummus as the other guests go on and on and on about pleeeeece bru'a'lity. And then there's the awkward silence when the host explains and everyone has to try and be nice. . .

TandB · 28/03/2011 14:48

Who doesn't have children?

Confused.

[shrugs and decides to get back to the job in hand]

ShirleyKnot · 28/03/2011 14:49

She's probably too busy getting the scratches buffed out of her piano

whenever anyone says "you are awful" I always think of Dick Emery.

ShowOfHands · 28/03/2011 14:49

Free gingerbread FOR ALL. I will not be swayed.

I had a dream about David Mitchell the other night too. You'll be pleased you weren't there. He was shorter than I imagined he would be. Good with his hands. Who won the fight btw? Not me. I'm wet.

Can't we just share? David I mean. Not the gingerbread.

cantspel · 28/03/2011 14:50

The Ritz isn't just for the rich. My pil were far from rich but every year my fil took my mil on their wedding anniversary for tea at the ritz and they were never turned away or shoved in the poor corner. They voted labour all their lives but still liked to have their once a year tea at the ritz.

BlooferLady · 28/03/2011 14:52

Kungfu I think the OP has taken objection to my taking objection, done some MN research, discovered I am having problems TTCing and said it's a good job and all. 'Course that might not be what s/he meant, it's hard to tell, but if so, well BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

PatriciaHolm · 28/03/2011 14:52

ShowOfHands · 28/03/2011 14:52
