You don't toast bacon sarnies.
Just lots of butter, which melts and goes all yummy when the bacon heats it up.

Mmmmm.......

BringBackGoingForGold · 27/03/2011 15:31

Oh heck, no, no butter please! It's all about the contrast of the soft, bland, dry white bread and the crunchy salty greasy bacon as far as I'm concerned.

But left to his own devices, DP would add butter too. Shock

Georgimama · 27/03/2011 18:03

I always toast the bread for my bacon sandwich, although I don't make a toastie out of it.

And I add butter Blush

BringBackGoingForGold · 28/03/2011 12:10

Georgimama, damn right you're blushing Smile

FreudianSlippery · 28/03/2011 12:13

How do you make eggy bread please? :)

ashamedandconfused · 28/03/2011 12:15

soak bread in a milk/egg mixture then fry it, tis yummy with a tiny bit of sugar sprinkled on

( a bit like a cheats pancake)

SummerRain · 28/03/2011 12:16

I've done it with granary loaf when the kids were begging for french toast and I had no white bread.

I't nice actually! Different but very tasty.

BringBackGoingForGold · 28/03/2011 12:17

Stir some eggs up with milk (I think) and any spices you fancy, pour into a shallow dish and soak some cheap white sliced bread in it (most important, obviously, that part Smile until it's soaked up the egg good and proper, then fry on both sides until it's all lovely and golden-brown. Nice with cinnamon/nutmeg etc and raisins. Also good with bacon and maple syrup, or berries of any kind, or a cherry compote ...

caramelwaffle · 28/03/2011 12:19

Yanbu

MissVerinder · 28/03/2011 12:22

bringbackgoingforgold that sounds delicious...

KaraStarbuckThrace · 28/03/2011 12:27

Divorce him on grounds of mental cruelty.

JuicyLips · 28/03/2011 12:35

I always do my eggy bread with a good pinch of salt added and a sprinkling of black pepper, yum want some now!

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 28/03/2011 12:38

I do it the same as goingforgold minus the raisins/cinammon.

I fry it in spray olive oil, some use butter/sunflower oil but have had to compromise because of my lardiness Sad

I always buy poshages.

Dcs will kill for a Rihmond Irish Recipe. They ahve them for a treat for breakfast on match days!

PaperView · 28/03/2011 12:46

You stroked the bacon? That sounds rude!!

I've not had Eggy bread for years. Would it be awful to wake 2 ill DCs and drag them to the shop (with sick bucket) to get some eggs?

Blatherskite · 28/03/2011 13:20

Eggy bread with Cinnamon! Raisins!! Cherry Compote!!! Shock

Nah, what you need on Eggy bread is a large dollop of ketchup.

My Mum used to draw a smiley face on teh bread with it when I was small and I do the same for my children now :)

LucretiaInShadows · 28/03/2011 13:24

No! It has to be brown sauce, barbecue at a pinch, and the bread has to be cheap, stale and medium sliced. Irresistible!

TheAtomicBum · 28/03/2011 13:25

I'm givin' a YANBU on this!

Err. Plain, basic cheap bread. Tesco Value bread will do just fine. And you can always use the remains as a frisby.

Definately with red source, cut into soldier. Must be cut into solders to be eaten properly. Unless you are using eggy bread instead of toast when preparing a heart attack on a plate fry up.

BringBackGoingForGold · 28/03/2011 14:47

Oh no, I like my eggy bread sweet and spicy (but bacon is acceptable in a bacon-and-maple-syrup combo).

JuicyLips · 28/03/2011 16:28

I definitely will have to try your way, sounds like a nice alternative.

BringBackGoingForGold · 28/03/2011 16:59

Oh, it is, but obviously in a different category to the savoury way. Which I'm not sure about ? I love fried bread with red or brown sauce, but I always think eggy bread is better suited to sweet flavours. I'm up for trying it and being proven wrong though!

Blatherskite · 28/03/2011 17:00

I'm up for trying sweet too...

Wish I weren't on a diet Sad

BringBackGoingForGold · 28/03/2011 17:02

Oh, bugger diets Smile. Treat yourself!

stealthsquiggle · 28/03/2011 17:03

Eggy bread should be made with neither poncy bread nor sliced white.

It must be made with last week's yesterday's baguette, and only ever eaten on French campsites.

(and eaten with cinammon sugar - [bleugh] to ketchup)

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 28/03/2011 17:07

I love Debbie and Andrew sausages too, but my local Tesco has stopped stocking them now aargh! i have complained to the customer services desk i felt so strongly about this! told them if i find them in the rival Asda, that's it, i'm switching!
