to be confused about how much you have to earn to lose child benefit?

What is the figure that you need to earn in order to lose your child benefit? Perhaps I am being a bit stupid, but I'm not sure what it is. And, is it just your gross salary figure that counts? For example, if your gross figure is just over the threshold, and you increase pension contributions enough to tip you under the threshold, would that mean you keep chlld benefit?

Apologies if this isn't really AIBU, but answers (or pointers to where to find the right info) would be much appreciated!

I think if one of you (or you, if LP) earns about 50K gross, then you're scuppered. It's based on individual earnings so if you both earn 45K (total income 90K), you still get it.

Not sure about pension conts, sorry.

Thanks whoamamma. But hasn't the budget lowered higher rate tax threshold to £37,400 now - so earning over that would mean you lose your child benefit? And in a year's time, from April 2012, it goes down to £35,000. I am not sure if that's right though.
