When little DS told me I was appalled. He was only 7and a half. This kind of hair raising activity I wouldnt consider until aged 11-13 yrs for my son. But no, my Ex to give Ds the holiday of a life time organised for him to go paragliding with the the instructor.....aaahh ! Shock

My Ds said he was a bit scared, but found it quite fun i think. Still think its not something most parents would let a child of this age do ,,, is it??

If the instructor is willing to take him, why not? What's the difference what his age is? Sounds like fun, actually.

If the instructor thought it was suitable then it was suitable.

And is X was wanting to play a great part in his son's life, and give him a memorable holiday, and DS actually liked it, then what is the problem?

mark it down as one of those things YOU wouldn't do, but try not to be upset that he would.

YANB very U, but you've got to let X make his own choices on parenting styles too.

If the instructor thought it safe, and clearly it was as he came back in one piece, then YABU.

I wouldn't have a problem per se - but I would be concerned about the insurance implications if anything had happened, as most travel insurance doesn't cover hazardous activities. This might be something you need to discuss with your ex for future holidays.

I just thought my god, what if something had gone wrong. We have nearly lost my youngest DS, 3x.. . . .so I guess I always think the worst could happen.
I see your points guys about if the instructor thought it was ok...then it was alright... true, true.
Still frightened me though. !!

Paragliding is safer than skiing. Dh is a paragliding instructor, we ski as well. Seven is minimun age by bhpa rules. Very well regulated here and in europe. I would be fine with it.

Ah ok, I see. Reassuring to hear that VivaLe beaver !

My 8y DD ould love it. I would be terrified. DH would also love it. I'd let DD do it but would probably feel sick til she was down safe.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/03/2011 10:48

I too would be fine with it. Life has some element of risk.
