Anyone want to name an example of a protest march that a) acheived its aim...

within living memory and b) achieved its aim better and quicker because some fuckwits people actually took their very small DC along?

Right, have just skimmed over the last few pages so may have missed some - apologies if x posts or or irrelevant. Glitter, I'm truly sorry to hear about the cuts in your children's services but would be very interested to know if they are local government or central government funded services?

If so, is your local government Labour led? I believe that in the current circumstances where cuts have to be made (let's face it, we're out of cash), Labour led councils tend to make the most politically expedient cuts in order to show the 'Tory Horror' - sad but true. There are billions that could be trimmed from public spending waste that would not involve these front-line cuts, but that would involve our dear Labour councillors removing some of their voters from the payroll - or, heaven forfend actually trimming some from their own grotesque budget.

Oh do give over LDNmummy - this whole thread is one big coalition bash.

"Whether Labour made mistakes or not is not the point"

Its exactly the point when Labour and the unions are the ones driving the protests. Dont kid yourself that this was the people rising together against the cuts. Milliband gave you his blessing, stood shoulder to shoulder with you.

You marched for Labour.

Of course ccp, & why exactly are we having to have any cuts??

It's not some vindictive Tory policy. It really is childish in the extreme that people think the Tories do, in some way, want to crush poor people. It's the same old cycle, socialist government gives & gives, country becomes bankrupt, Tory government has to bring some sense to the argument - evil Tories - starving our children. Funds are not, & have never been limitless - how do we wish to spend them??

& please, don't bash the corporate tax payers - those rules were made under a Labour government to liberalise the market, I believe Tony (& Gordon) once loved the bankers......

Personally I think it was great to see so many people protesting for something they feel strongly about.

I just wish it was for something else. To me the cuts are inevitable and believing the protests will change anything is like thinking that if enough protest then the laws of gravity can be changed.
