to think that NO-ONE can park on a double yellow line?

I may be completely wrong and if so please tell me and I will accept it.

But arent double yellow lines meant to be illegal for ANYONE to park on? Or is it OK in some instances?

I thought that the single yellow lines can only be parked on by blue badge holders and anyone else at a certain time of day (ie I think after 6PM and before 8AM?) and that double yellow lines meant NO-ONE is allowed to park there at all?

Am I wrong in this?

Im asking because in the town I live in there is a street near the shops which has a mix of single yellow lines and double yellow lines, yet you cant walk down said street without cars being parked on the double yellow lines. Im just wondering if there are reasons they are allowed to, like blue badge holders, or drop-off and pick up.

Yes I am well aware that there are more important things to worry about than this, but I am just curious if Ive got it wrong and hope that you MNetters can tell me. I walked down said street today and I just wondered.

Thanks

Nup. Double yellows can be parked on by blue badge holders so long as there are not stripes on the kerb denoting loading only.

HTH.

If you have a Blue Badge you can park on double yellows for up to 3 hours, as long as you aren't causing an obstruction and there are no loading/unloading restrictions.

I thought the whole point of double yellow lines is that if you park there you are causing an obstruction.

OK fair enough. I didnt think anyone could, but Im wrong and like I have said I have accepted it.

Mostly I dont really think about it, but today I noticed it and thought "is that allowed" I honestly thought it was just single yellow lines due to it being dangerous or something, but then again I neither have a blue badge or am a traffic warden.

Thanks :) I will just go back to forgetting about it now.
