A few weeks ago we got a co op leaflet in our paper with nappies on offer. It was the £6 packs down to £4 and the £10 packs to just £4.99.

Having 2 (soon to be 3) in nappies I walked to our co-op to stock up on the £4.99 packs but they only had the £4 ones. (which i didn't want as it was £4 for 32 rather than 99p more for 60ish)

So few days later I went to another co-op, then another. (by bus) and tehy only had the £4 packs.

So that offer finished, today our paper comes with leaflet saying the £9.99 packs are still on offer for £4.99

so I called all my local co-ops and non of them stock them.

They told me to try 'xyz' store about 10 miles away!

AIBU to complain to them about advertising somethinbg that they hardly have available??

Unfortunately it's one of those things, only certain stores are going to be doing the offer. Can you not get someone to drive you to the one ten miles away?

Not really. I'm lucky enough to get taken food shopping once a week but its 2 local shops.

It says 'larger stores only' but 2 of the near me ARE big stores not just the 'nip in' co-ops. Confused

Totoros, I got that leaflet and went on a ridiculous wild-nappy-chase last week. Had exactly the same as you - purposefully went to a 'larger' store further away as opposed to the 2 local nip-in ones near me and they only had the £4ers.

I think we're both in the same area, so where was the one they suggested 10 miles away?!

Yes write to customer care, they are really good about stuff like that www.co-operative.jobs/contactus/. Or New Century House, Corporation St, Manchester M60 4ES.
Know someone who works there :)

Alderley edge.

Never been there in my life!

Oops gave the jobs link but you can still get the customer care info from somewhere in there!

TotorosOcarina · 25/03/2011 20:11

thanks kitbit, x

What big co-op in Alderley Edge?! Am pretty sure there's only a 'nip-in' sized one there. Seriously, like the people of Alderley Edge need cheap nappies...

Email them this thread. Shoddy stuff.

IME CoOp normally quite responsive if you get hold of the manager of the branch in question -- I'm forever cornering the poor bloke who runs the one near me, and petitioning him to supply x and y, and often said items appear on shelves in a month or so) but customer care might be good too.

TotorosOcarina · 25/03/2011 20:13

hahahahaha! so true!

Isnt the co-op franchise now? there will be something on the leaflet about "participating stores".

BeatRoute · 25/03/2011 20:21

The leaflet says "larger stores only" as the OP states. This is pretty ambiguous really as I don't know any Co-Op stores that are any larger than a small supermarket. There are 'local' small ones and then slightly larger ones that are small supermarket sized, but no "large" ones, IYSWIM.

LIZS · 25/03/2011 21:02

There will be the magic words somewhere of Subject to Availability and/or Available in selected stores only in small print. You can try Trading Standards if you feel strongly enough but it is likely the Coop would be able to demonstrate that either they had a limited supply of the offer and had sold out in the stores you visited or that they had stated the offer was restricted to x number of larger stores. Such things are a loss leader, designed to increase footfall.
