To really not want a Bugaboo purely on the basis that EVERYONE has one in my area!

I did so much research and had decided finally on a Bugaboo Bee over the Baby Jogger City Mini after DP and I finally popped into Mothercare and loved it.

We live in London and it seemed perfect. But we live in Islington, and wherever you go there are packs of Bugaboo mummies moving from park to cafe looking like little groups of alien ships with humans propelling them.

We were sitting at the park yesterday and watching all of them go past I just finally had had enough. So now I am back to square one, AIBU?

I think YABU to waste so much thought on a buggy

I am genuinely flummoxed by the whole buggy-envy thing and NEVER notice what a baby is being pushed around in - unless it's a particularly poncy looking contraption Wink

nubbins · 24/03/2011 19:58

Ahhhhh but bugaboo's are great!

I bought mine when I lived in an area where no one else had one, then moved and they were everywhere, so, I just made sure mine got a bit scuffed up and can't possibly be mistaken for a fashion symbol. It's still doing me proud after over 3 years hard labour and 2 kids (sometimes both at once).

Claz1001 · 24/03/2011 19:58

Everyone has them where I live too! I went for the Babystyle Oyster in the end instead of the Bee (not because everyone had them, I just preferred it, but YANBU) and love it.

TattyDevine · 24/03/2011 20:00

Then don't get one.

Nobody will give you a medal for being different and not getting one.

Equally, nobody will give you a medal for having one.

Get what you need/want that suits your requirements and is in your budget.

SugarLemons · 24/03/2011 20:02

if everyone has them, then isn't that a good sign?? realiable, easy to use etc..

BsshBossh · 24/03/2011 20:02

YABU. It's a nifty, comfortable, good looking buggy. If you like it then buy it. Who cares about everyone else. Loads of Bees in my part of North London too but I simply think "Good choice" (then judge the owners on their choice of colour - pink???? why?????).

splashyy · 24/03/2011 20:02

I have one and love it. Perfect for London!

Didn't notice it was so popular till after I got it, but who cares! I think Yabu to care what anyone else has..

Also there are good deals to be had if you look around and when you are done it can be sold on eBay for a tidy sum.

TattyDevine · 24/03/2011 20:02

By the way, I had a Bugaboo Cameleon, which I was so happy with. Got so much use out of it. Others I knew were on their 3rd buggy and I was still using it for my 2nd child.

Only thing it wasn't great for was overseas travel.

nethunsreject · 24/03/2011 20:02

See, you should live somewhere less swish (like my town) and get one of those leatherette pink jobbies with massive fixed wheels that take up the entire pavement for no good reason. And a satin, frilled blanket with the baby's name on.

TattyDevine · 24/03/2011 20:03

PS: Finally sold it on eBay after years of use for 50% of sale price

LDNmummy · 24/03/2011 20:05

I think its the fact that it is more a symbol of fashionable/ yummy mum's where I live that irks me, blergh.

Ah nethunsreject, if only... [sighs and looks off into distance]

UABU - you are buying for your baby and you and need something fit for purpose. The other people in your area realised the Bee is probably the most suitable thing for your area, as have you.

If your worried about being original, none of the other Bees will have your baby in, making yours unique. If thats the most suitable pram for your needs purchase it.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 24/03/2011 20:07

:o

I read the title she came on here to say YANBU, I live in Islington and they're EVERYWHERE1!!

Geocentric · 24/03/2011 20:07

Of course you're being unreasonable, but I totally get you. I hate being predictable!!!!!

Honeydragon · 24/03/2011 20:08

Or practical minded people who don't give a shit what you or others think, perhaps?

emsyj · 24/03/2011 20:09

YANBU. A friend of mine helpfully told me when I was pregnant that I had to get a Bugaboo because 'everyone judges you by what pram you have - you'll do the same' (um, thanks for the warning, but actually I remain as utterly disinterested in prams now as I ever was...)

I got a Mutsy 4Rider, which absolutely flummoxed her because she had never heard of them yet knew they were quite expensive (because she looked it up on the Internet - she is that type) so she was unable to quite place me in the pram hierarchy.

Having said that, you can get fab customised hoods and stuff for the Bugaboos and I want them now, so maybe I should have listened to her after all! Confused Grin If you do get one, google 'Snunkie' - their stuff is fab.

nethunsreject · 24/03/2011 20:09
Grin

I bought a Silver Cross linear sleepover thing 5 years ago for dc1 and swear to god, they are like bloody Fords. Everyone has one! Good pushchair though.

Anyway, I digress.

I know what you mean about wanting something that doesn't scream 'yummy Islington Mummy!' but really, noone sans a baby will even notice.

WHat about a Loola if you really don't want the Bugaboo?

LDNmummy · 24/03/2011 20:09

Ouch Honeydragon, have a glass of Wine

LDNmummy

ooooh sorry -- I meant that as a positive thing as you sound practical....not an insult! It wasn't meant to come across all Hmm.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 24/03/2011 20:13

Yep, the Bee is light, lies flat, forward and backward facing, nippy, sturdy...yeah, don't get one because everyone else has one. Get one that isn't nearly as good but be smug that you're not letting suitability cloud your originality. Madness.

redstripeyelephant · 24/03/2011 20:16

Ohhhh they are everywhere here too. I don't get why they are so popular, they are way overpriced.

Mind you, i'm one to talk, we have a red phil n ted sport, which is definitely the buggy of choice for the toddler/baby combo round here. And DD has a micro mini scooter too Blush

Got a freecycled 2nd hand silver cross for DD - suited us very well and she is still in it now, as a buggy, at 17months. Really do not understand why anyone would pay silly money for something that'll only be used for a couple of years. Have to say I feel very smug when i see the silly buggers wheeling their bugaboos or P&T's around. It's liberating not to be a slave to consumerism - plus very on trend in a recession Wink.

manfromCUK · 24/03/2011 20:40

YANBU - same reason I don't have a BMW - turned one down as Company car once - or an iphone - or a Bugaboo. We did get a Quinny though and then noticed how common they are. It was an utter waste of cash too - a cheapo one would've been fine.
