To really not want a Bugaboo purely on the basis that EVERYONE has one in my area!

I did so much research and had decided finally on a Bugaboo Bee over the Baby Jogger City Mini after DP and I finally popped into Mothercare and loved it.

We live in London and it seemed perfect. But we live in Islington, and wherever you go there are packs of Bugaboo mummies moving from park to cafe looking like little groups of alien ships with humans propelling them.

We were sitting at the park yesterday and watching all of them go past I just finally had had enough. So now I am back to square one, AIBU?

mountain buggy swift

BlooferLady · 24/03/2011 20:44

I do not care that Bugaboos are consistently found to be The Best Thing Going, nor that some of my best friends have them. When (if....) I have a child I shall not touch one with someone else's ten foot bargepole. They speak to me of everything I despise

NinkyNonker · 24/03/2011 20:47

I bought mine off eBay second hand, it is the old version of a Chameleon. It is great, I love it...but I wouldn't pay its full price value for any pushchair...nuts. I really don't notice other prams, so if it is right for you go for it. I bought ours cause it was right for us...not fussed what others think.

But to be honest I use my slings more... Wink

TandB · 24/03/2011 20:47

Be different. Get a sling and don't bother with a buggy.

southeastastra · 24/03/2011 20:49

i don't get this pram one-upmanship thing, i just got the nicest one from mothercare i liked for my son

older son had second hand silver cross thing

really over my head all this pram hun stuff

figcake · 24/03/2011 20:49

Bugaboo=boooooring esp
bugaboo followed by Phil&Ted's a couple of years later when DC2 comes along

NinkyNonker · 24/03/2011 20:50

Haha, great minds KungFu.

MrsMcgee · 24/03/2011 20:52

Oh get the bugaboo anyway!! They are wonderful, I ended up buying one after my quinny repeatedly broke in the first 6m!! I have a chameleon and it is so well designed - ignore what others have and go for what suits you!

Moulesfrites · 24/03/2011 20:54

Get a stokke explory - it's fab and it's Swedish and Heidi Klum has one! She also has a son with the same name as my ds, I like to think of get as my sleb twin.... Grin

BlooferLady · 24/03/2011 20:55

See, Quinny. That's another thing. I snort tea out of my nose EVERY SINGLE TIME because all I can think of is that it's slang for vagina. True! It's like carting your baby around in the latest model Flange! "Don't forget the hood for the new Vajayay Bernard, it looks like rain" Grin

VajayJay. Obviously laughing too hard at my own wit to type properly Hmm

LDNmummy · 24/03/2011 20:58

Hold on a darn second, there are other buggy's out there, why are people getting so defensive or uptight about this?

Get over it FGS, there is no need for sarcastic or OTT responses, its a light hearted commentary on the fact that I see a particular buggy everywhere.

And it may be practical, but it is also overpriced. I may have been put off it, but that doesn't necessarily mean I wouldn't get one, of course practicality will win out in the end.

Again, it was light hearted, stop getting so emotional about it.

And yes, my individuality is important to me, so what, its my personality, hardly a crime against civilization as we know it, lighten up.

Thanks for the recommendations from other people though, still looking into my options so will definitely look into it Smile

A quick vote of confidence for the City Mini. I love mine, it goes up and down one handed, fits in the boot of my very small car, and is genuinely the best buggy I have ever had (admittedly it's the only one I've ever paid for, but I'd had four others before this one).

blinks · 24/03/2011 21:00

on the up side, i sold my bugaboo on for a decent wad of cash after two children.... not many buggies stay decent looking enough or remain desirable even used after 4 years.

LargeGlassOfRedPlease · 24/03/2011 21:00

In my day it was M&P pramette..are they still popular? Were great as could get into small boot

Just to let you know OP, that the Whittington, Royal Free and UCH all check that you have a Bugaboo before letting you leave the hospital after the birth. Wink

crapbarry · 24/03/2011 21:05

I got a britax vigour second hand off someone on here, have had it a year, used daily, and we adore it. 2 friends with bugaboos had a go of it and said apart from it being 3 vs 4 wheeled, they couldn't see much difference. I prefer mine to the bugaboos because it feels sturdier (the bugaboos feel a bit flimsy to me, although I'm sure I'm wrong!)

phil&teds are hugely popular round here, lots of 'irish twins' :o

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 24/03/2011 21:05

YABU
I didn't get one for dd2 as i balked at the price and image
got a loola instead, which turned out to be a right old heap of junk.
i am picking up a second-hand bee tomorrow. i wish i'd got one new in the first place.

crapbarry · 24/03/2011 21:06

bloofer - eh? quinny is slang for fanjo? really? Shock

LDNmummy · 24/03/2011 21:07

Well I'm glad I didn't end up at the UCH then!

Or am I? Confused

OP posts:
BlooferLady · 24/03/2011 21:07

Oh yes VERY GOOD Frog Grin

I know it's childish but I do sneer at the Bugaboo brigade. I always suspect them of getting terribly fretful about making sure people take their shoes off to preserve their cream carpets, and wear those Tiffany heart pendants, and talk a lot about Farrow and Ball paint charts, and visibly recoil at second hand clobber, and have those little charm things that you put on wine glasses to make sure dinner party guests don't get their booze all muddled.

Disclaimer: I know this is irrational

ENormaSnob · 24/03/2011 21:07

I have had 4 bugaboos Blush

imvho they are not worth the money.

I now have a bjcmicro which is great but ds keeps toppling it over whilst he is in it Shock
