Have just cancelled my two bank cards...without me knowing...and I'm really cross..
Quick back story.. 5 weeks ago my bag was stolen, purse etc . Within half an hour I had rung Barclays , and they assured me they had stopped the cards and would issue new ones. When after 10 days no new cards had arrived I went into my branch who discovered the bank had only stopped one card and had failed to order ANY replacements... I ended up with 2 weeks , no access to cash or online banking as I can't get there in bank hours.
Today I went to pay my dentist and BOTH cards were refused. I came home and rang Barclays to discover that they had stopped them.
Turns out a decent person had found my purse at the edge of the canal today and having found my cards, rang Barclays to ask if they could contact me. Instead Barclays asked for the account numbers and promptly cancelled the cards. The man gave him number for me if I got in contact, and when I rang him, he was most apologetic that they had cancelled them without ringing me.
So... they cancelled my cards ... didn't check with me... didn't check that actually the reported ones HAD already been stopped and they were cancelling the wrong ones.. and the woman on the phone was incredibly short with me when I asked her why it was ok for a random stranger to ring up and they don't check before doing things to my account, yet I have to jump through every hoop to prove my identity when I need to call them?
I am very tempted to move my account once and for all... and to write a complaint. AIBU?!
