I am over a week late for my period, I have sore boobs a couple of times which is unusual for me as I only get them when pregnant. This baby wasnt planned (none were, just lovely little gifts :) ). I could go after school to a clinic and get tested or I can wait until my Drs appointment Friday, this would give me more time for my period to come but I dont know if I can wait to know.

So do I wait, or do I go after school?

Ladies?

Knowing now isn't going to make you less pregnant. No need to test at all is there, until you need access maternity care?

duchesse · 24/03/2011 20:45

Or more pregnant. What I mean is you will still be pregnant or not pregnant, whether you test or not.

OracleInaCoracle · 24/03/2011 20:45

and to be fair, im not totally disagreeing with the financial aspect, its the general twattiness that i object to.

squeakytoy · 24/03/2011 20:47

Poundland and poundshop both sell tests, they are usually kept with all the medication stuff.

duchesse · 24/03/2011 20:47

I'm hoping thinking that Florence is not in a caring profession.

CrapBag · 24/03/2011 20:49

Ah, yes. Sorry I see that bit now.

I am actually assuming that she means a doctors appointment costs more than 20p and didn't mean Confuddled was wasting NHS resources for having complications. It may have been worded badly. If not, then I take back my agreement with Florence.

But I do still think it is a waste to get a doctor to do a pregnancy test when you can buy them so cheaply. That is a waste of an appointment (although I do know that the OP ws going anyway).

FlorenceCalamityandJoanofArc · 24/03/2011 20:53

er what? I was merely responding to the the "it only costs 20p, sure go get a test at the docs" by pointing out that the drs time cost more than 20p. If you want to turn that into some thing else based on nothing, you go right ahead. Way to over-personalise though. Hmm

FlorenceCalamityandJoanofArc · 24/03/2011 20:55

And vile? You fuck off yourself. Pregnancy tests cost a pound, if you haven't got a pound to spare you are fucked if you can afford another baby.

What planet are you people on?

FlorenceCalamityandJoanofArc · 24/03/2011 20:58

Plus did you fail to notice that the OP isn't waiting for the doctors appt, like a small child she can't wait for her lovely suprise and is going to a free clinic to lie about her age to get a free test done.

Go on though, flame me for pointing that out too, I'm so evil. Hmm

OracleInaCoracle · 24/03/2011 20:59

florence, read it back. you were confrontational and disregarded the posts around yours so that it looked like you were telling confuddled and myself that we were wasting resources and time. seriously love, read the posts in context. if you didnt mean it that way, I apologise, but thats how it reads.

fwiw, i agree that going to the gp just to see if you are up the duff when there are no problems is a waste of resources. fucking hell, its hard enough to get what you need anyway (if you are in that position) without resources being put under extra strain. but the op is going to the doctors. for meds that she cant take if pg. if I was having an xray and my period was late but I hadnt tested (for whatever reason) I would tell the doctor and take a test to be sure. its not a waste of resources, its utilising the gp's time.

Thornykate · 24/03/2011 20:59

Dont know how much GPs pay for pg test kits but a lot of stuff is v expensive if you bulk buy within the health service as you are restricted to where you can buy from. When I used to purchase NHS supplies they were much more expensive than they are in the shops ie £2 from quality Save.

Much the same as it is cheaper to buy paracetamol than get a prescription for it.

OracleInaCoracle · 24/03/2011 21:00

and again with the tone.

wow.

duchesse · 24/03/2011 21:00

Florence, what about the people who are ill because they smoke, drink to excess, take drugs, eat poorly through choice, fail to exercise, have STDs or indulge in dangerous sports- should they refrain from visiting the doctor by the same token? I guarantee that health settings would be a lot quieter. This is life, not Utopia.

Newgolddream · 24/03/2011 21:03

Im actually amazed at some blase attitudes to unplanned pregnancy and contraception - yes we dont know OPs circumstances but it strikes me as a tad irresponsible. Contraception is free on prescription - and if someone cant use any contraception (highly unlikely) at all, theres the natural method - i.e. avoid sex at your fertile time.

CrapBag · 24/03/2011 21:03

I think people are going way too far now!!

Florence did mean how I thought she meant it and I think she is getting an unfair flaming for it.

FlorenceCalamityandJoanofArc · 24/03/2011 21:06

no, you read a general post and applied it to yourself, you who had nothing to do with my opinion, you totally over-personalised and then jumped on me. If it makes you feel better keep kicking me though.

And being ill is when you need a doctor, for whatever reason. My issue was with the OP's child-like attitude.

And ThornyKate raises a good point, didn't you read about the £20 lighbulbs on theNHS? no way is a pregnancy test that cheap.

You're surprised at my tone after you called me vile and twattish? Hmm Really?

batsintheroof · 24/03/2011 21:06

florence

"Plus did you fail to notice that the OP isn't waiting for the doctors appt, like a small child she can't wait for her lovely suprise and is going to a free clinic to lie about her age to get a free test done. "

the possibility of being pregnant is one of the most exciting things ever. Id happily pay my taxes so women can get free sticks to pee on. MEANIE!!!

God some of you guys, it's only money, chill out. Why are you so OBSESSED about where it goes? You earn a certain amount of money, you pay tax, that isn't going to change- fgs just get over it.

FlorenceCalamityandJoanofArc · 24/03/2011 21:07

You also need to grow up, bats.

OracleInaCoracle · 24/03/2011 21:08

i agree crapbag. florence didnt mean it that way, that is how it reads. she was asked if the post referred to confuddled and didnt answer, instead continued posting in the same vein. I apologise for misunderstanding, but there is a reason that I (and others) misunderstood. i still say that there is no reason for her to be so rude though.

and I agree that 3 "surprise" pg's is a bit Hmm but we dont know the op's circs

batsintheroof · 24/03/2011 21:08

hahahahaha

Im happy being young, liberal and carefree, thanks :)

CBear6 · 24/03/2011 21:09

My doctor still does pregnancy tests, you don't have an appointment though you just put a sample in at reception - even if you've had a positive HPT their policy is to confirm it before referring you to the midwife. It costs them less to do a pregnancy test than it does to do a booking in appointment and scan for someone who isn't actually pregnant (which apparently happens more often than you'd think and for many varying reasons).

I'd also like to say that birth control fails, none of it is 100% effective and accidents happen, there have even people who've had their tubes tied or a DP with the snip who have found themselves pregnant.

Plus who are we to pass judgement? Where in the opening post does it say "please come judge me and imply that I am a bad mother living in poverty who can't even use contraception?". That whole saying about walking a mile in someone elses shoes springs to mind.

Awful.

Thornykate · 24/03/2011 21:10

Do hope the OP finds some money from somewhere though as if I was her I would want to be buying folic acid supplements asap rather than wait.

LDNmummy · 24/03/2011 21:10

lol @ bats

CrapBag · 24/03/2011 21:11

I have noticed that the OP hasn't been back.

Possibly scared off?

OracleInaCoracle · 24/03/2011 21:12

florence, i obviously cant talk to you (and you call the op childlike? after telling someone to bite you?) so am leaving this thread.
