To take my baby to battle of the bands?

My ds is 8 weeks old. I am a teacher on mat leave and my school is having a battle of the bands competition on lunchtime next week. Some of the y11s I have taught throughout their time at the school will be in it and I would really love to go and see them perform before they leave. However, it is likely to be quite loud, about 400 kids in the school hall cheering and the music of course. Do you think it would be ok to take ds to this? Will I need some baby sound blocking headphones a la Gwyneth and apple?

I would leave baby at home with a grandparent. Its a bit unfair to take such a young child to something so noisy.

How about take her in, and if she gets upset other teachers take turns in watching yr 11s or cuddling baby in the staff room? I'm sure everyone will understand, including your students, if you have to pop out with him. If he really doesn't settle, you can take him home guilt-free, knowing you tried your hardest to see your students perform. My teacher did the same when I was at school, her daughter slept the entire way through christmas entertainment and got passed around to cuddles at the same time. Everyone was happy!

may be abit loud and hectic for someone whos only been in the world for 8 weeks with there little eardrums,i wouldn,t take mine

why not pop in a bit earlier with the baby, chat to your yr 11 kids before the performance before they go on and with them luck. Then stand at the back with DS, if he gets upset by it you can leave/go to the staffroom. Simple!

It probably won't be that loud at the back of the hall - you could always stand next to the doors with the baby on the outside and you poking your head round even? :)

A bit of a difference, but we took DS to a wedding at 6 days old... didn't even think about the noise from the DJ. He was fine and slept through it. When he was slightly older we bought him some of those noise-blocking headphones (like this) for our trip to Glastonbury (and we've since used them at other weddings too). He loves them and likes to wear them around the house now.

He has no hearing problems as far as we know.

Go and leave if there's a problem. DD might be unusual, but she loved loud rock music as a baby. (Still does.)
